60 watt CFL for seedlings

Is a 60 watt CFL enough to grow seedlings? How long would I keep them under there. Is there a better option than the CFL? I need some seedling lighting tips.

That's plenty, just position the lights about 1" from tops of seedlings. I do the same for my seedlings.

I keep my seedlings under my small 85watt T5 until my second set of leaves begin to develop. Like KushDC said, around 2 weeks. A 60 watt CFL is fine just try and have a reflector with it to not waste any light.

Maybe it is. Just happens to work well for me.

Edit - I'm using the 60W flourescent tubes, maybe that is different and I have terms confused

I just looked up picture of a CFL and I hereby retract my 1" recommendation. I don't know shit about these bulbs. Thanks Alienwidow for the correction!

Lol ya. I started out using CFL's and that close they can fry one up.

I have a 110 watt pl-55 HO on my seedlings about 4-5 inches away. But I am also using this light from start to finish
