I don't mind mutants if I've got the space to grow them - they can sometimes be very potent. But if yours is munted, and doesn't look like it's going to grow that well with the others, then yeah, you could make better use of your space.

Lots of interesting ways to skin the same cat going on in here!

Rather than trying to say one is best, I'm struck by the variety of approaches that produce good results.
Agreed. I avoided hydro for a long time because I thought it was complicated and easy to burn plants . . . but it's actually easier than soil because everything is done for you: nutrients are balanced, and all you have to do is feed the right amount, manage pH, and keep an eye on your pumps.

But I don't want to come across as churlish, because I can see a lot of thought has been put into this system and it has the potential to work really well. I really like it! I was just offering another option which could work with the same design.

^^^^ THIS. SO MUCH.

I have not seen one deficiency since going to the buckets. Soil grows were just all over the place and never seemed to really finish right.

If I could like this a hundred times I would.

I saw a video on Dutch buckets and I'm like... Fuck, I can have one of those set up tomorrow!

I did a quick swap yesterday. Mutant to the bin and new one in the pot. It was only one day after the rest were transplanted to big pots so happy I've made the decision.

Any input is much appraciated here. I'm not an expirienced grower and if I can learn from people that have knowledge, I will :)

Weekly update.

Day 27 from seed.
Power ramped up to 400W as it's a bit cold in the tent.
Plants started to show some roots at the bottom, which is great as I hoped the aeriated water would keep them happy there as well :)
Added cal-mag 5ml/10L of water.

Installed two 230mm PC fans (low profile) in the opposite corners of the tent to create a bit of air circulation. Will have to install some kind of a screen later on when the plants will get bigger.

One of the plants started to show some problems. Might have to start feeding nutes early next week.
It's a bit cold in the tent with low RH. It might be slowing them down a bit or it's just me checking out on them too often :P

Love the setup. Really looking forward to see how this works out.

Does that plant with the mottled leave have some form of TMV perhaps?

That's not TMV, that's genetic leaf veriegation. Is it from the same seed stock as the mutant? That will probably be your answer. It may grow out of it, it may not.

Just out of curiosity, what is your pH?

How typical is that :cuss:I went to check PH and battery in the pen died :/ . I've checked it with the drops and it shows 6.5 PH. Will drop it down to 6 and will see if it stays like that.
Will get new batteries tmrw

EDIT:

...but I'm thinking soil will buffer that a bit.

Those drops are usually pretty accurate (if they're not too old). I always keep them handy to double check meter readings, just to be sure. 6.5 is not so bad, I just wanted to check it wasn't too low. You can expect in a healthy system for your pH to rise slowly - a falling pH is a sign of anerobic conditions - so if you set it at 5.8-6.0, let it rise to around 6.3 or so before you reset it. The slow rise in pH makes various nutrients more or less available at different levels, and the plant will take what it needs.

Your plants look pretty good to me. I'm assuming it's the yellow light that makes them look a bit lighter in colour than they really are, but there are certainly no signs of nutrient burn. I'd probably start them on a weak solution now, seeing as you already have roots in the channels and they don't have much to feed on.

Dropping pH can also be a sign of excessively high EC or ratios out of whack.

Well it's usually called TMV. Whatever it is, the issue is that the leaves only partially develop on one side. Same happens with the tops. They also only partially develop on 50% of the plant.

It's genetic. Same reason the OP had a mutant. Variegated leaves and mutations are common in Blueberry genes - which are found in many modern strains - as it was a selective trait by some breeders.

If it were TMV - and that's a big if, because TMV is so extremely rare I've never seen it, nor encountered anyone who has in 30+ years of growing - all his plants would have it. It's a virus. In fact, anyone who's ever grown cannabis for any length of time would have it, because sooner or later, if you grow lots of different strains, you will end up with a mutant or variegated plant. Sometimes the plant grows out of it, sometimes it doesn't, but it won't affect the other plants.

Got the batteries today. PH was closer to 7.0 .
I topped the rez, added cal-mag , stress zyme and Flora Nova Bloom (half the strength). PH dropped to 5.2 and it sits at 5.3 couple hours later.
Water before the nutes was ~220ppm (had some calmag) and after 920ppm @0.7 conversion.
I'm using tap water that I let to sit for 2-3 days.

I'm not crazy worried about the virus as I can't do much with that now. Will leave the plant and see how it will progress.

Ladies had slightly droopy leaves before and I think it happened after I rised the woltage and they didn't have enough nutes ? Power stayed the same, I've moved the light back a bit. After all that and added nutes ladies seams to be a bit happier :)

Yeah exactly. Not much you can do. Sometimes it even goes away (sort of) after a while. The plant doesn't look much affected by it.

It's not a virus. TMV is one of the biggest myths in cannabis. Considering TMV was the first virus identified in North America, it may come as a surprise to some to learn it has never been officially identified in cannabis. Plenty has been written about it, but google all you want - you won't find a scientifically verified case of it in cannabis. If you do, then I'll take back everything I've written.

Weekly update.

Day 34 from seed.
Temp 24.5-25.5*C
RH 62-68%
PPM 915
PH 5.35
Water temp 21.5*C
Lights set up @400W

Ladies are very bushy and don't want to grow up. I'm guessing it's because many light sources make them lazy ;) They show a good vigor. I'll give them 4 days (max) and then flip. Developed a nice water roots.
The upper left one still looking a bit off and its still the smallest one but it was transplanted one or two days after. They are drinking about 40L/week between 6 of them.
I'm thinking to bump the light and nutes soon.
Light are running very cool. On the slowest pump setting they are 22*C @400W measured just behind where they are mounted.
PH isn't rising. Should I adjust it manually ?

How exactly are you planning on flowering them in that space/ setup? You do realize hybrids will be 4ft+ plants after stretch, especially with hydro/ nft?

Maybe I'm stupid, but that seems really tight.....

The space for the upper level is till the ceiling and the lower level have all the way up till the top of the upper pots.
Plants measure 30cm now. They have still 45cm to go as each level have 75cm of space to grow.
I'm planning the stretch to be around 2x . At least thats the info I've found about this strain. First time growing it so fingers crossed ;)

Never got my plants taller then 1m as previously was doing a lot of LST so all the branches would be more less even, Mmaking a plant overall smaller. Will see how much different this one will be.
