Hey! Upgrading from a Secret Jardin 3x3 to a new 5x5 and just looking for opinions on which tents people have experience with, good / bad. I am happy with my Secret Jardin, it has been going strong for 4 years now, only a couple small pin holes but it has worked great otherwise. I know Gorilla is kind of the go to for top end but I am a bang for buck type of person, I will take something 80% as good for half the cost any day. Looking for reviews I have seen Covert listed a few times, they have diamond pattern reflectors and similar layout to Gorilla but the websites all seemed to be too heavily stacked as giving them top scores in like every size/category not to be a bit suspect. I just want something that will last and have as little light leak as possible as the new location wont be as enclosed as the old.

Thanks!

My cousin has a Covert and I would have gotten one in a SECOND except I have short ceilings, and if I remember correctly, covert is 84" tall? I have a cheap 2x2 generic brand tent and I wish I had gotten something better, it has so many pinholes it looks like the milky way galaxy at night. I ended up getting a Gorilla Lite tent on a sweet Black Friday deal, it was totally worth it. Compare the zipper styles-the Gorilla type zipper is easy to replace with straight strips of velcro if they ever break-the big U shaped zippers are not. The other thing is the flap that Gorilla places behind the zipper is much wider than in some other tents-zippers are one of the main places light seeps in. Hydropolis is another good "gorilla style" brand. Don't get me wrong, cheaper brands work fine, but the cheapness is evident in many different aspects. For me, I know I will have this tent in place for many years and I wanted something I know will hold up, esp once I get a huge bed of soil inside.

I have several Mars tents 1680D canvas that I'm happy with. I'd like to try the AC Infinty tents that just came out with 2000D canvas. Good price too with canuck15 code. Their shipping is pricey but is only a few bucks more tent for tent vs Mars.

I have a 32x60x80 vivosun, and I like it. I'm not really a fan of the interior. I like the diamond mylar like the mars and iPower tents.
big difference in the canvas thickness tho. I love my mars hydro tent not only because the interior, but the 1680D canvas is pretty solid, so the AC Infinity tents have to be awesome. a 5x5 may be my next upgrade.

The problem you're going to run into is high quality fabric with weak support poles made from cheap thin aluminum. Your Jardin? Stainless steel. Thick gauge. Fabric is cheap. Good thick stainless steel? Not so much. Most of the cheap tents will have high quality fabric, and they should. It's cheap. All will have weak poles unless you go with a good brand. Gorilla lite looks solid, but I don't have personal experience with them. You're not going to find the same quality of support bars in a cheap kit that you have with your SJ. And those rock solid heavy duty stainless steel support bars that create the frame is what you're paying for. Not the fabric.

I own 3 cheap tents. 2 5'x5' tents and a 4'x4'. They were very cheap. $110 each I think for the 5x5's and maybe $100 for the 4x4. Why so cheap? The reasons mentioned above. I actually had to go out and buy 3/4" EMT with a few angle adapters to create a structural support just to hang my 4' T5. The light literally bowed the cheap cross bar and structural supports so much that I had concerns it would buckle. $80 and a day's work made it rock solid now and I could hold 100# without a problem, but if that's not something you're willing to do I suggest you buy something decent. SJ or gorilla lite. And if you do try to shop around for a value brand the best advice I can give you is if the support bars that construct the frame aren't stainless steel and thick gauge you're going to run into the same problem I did.

Now another consideration is what kind of light are you running? A quantum board? Those babies are very light. Cheap out and rock out with your cock out dude. Hanging a heavy carbon filter and inline fan? You need good structural supports to support that without buckling. Or set it on the floor of your grow tent and run the ducting from there. Lots of ways to approach these problems. These are things you most likely haven't ever considered when buying a tent. Know why? You own a secret jardin. They're pretty much as good as it gets. That was my first grow tent. DR120 :)

Do yourself a favor and pick up a cloudlab from acinfinity. Some of their recent developments are questionable but the tents are top of the line.

Coupon codes for 15% off- canuck15 and growcast15.

They used to have free shipping over $100 but they seem to have stopped that.

If waiting isn’t a problem Amazon has the 5x5 cloudlab in stock mid may and has free shipping for prime members.
The codes will work on Amazon too.

I'f I was in the market for another tent I'd get another Vivosun myself. There are more expensive tents but they don't make your plants grow any better.

I have a 6" carbon filter, 6" Active Air fan, and sealed hood for my HPS hanging from the top and it could still hold more weight. In fact I'm using the top of my tent as a storage area. It's plenty strong for any equipment you'll be using. It's less than half the price of a Jardin or Gorilla. It might not be the same quality but you set your tent up, put plants in it, and grow. It's not like they get a bunch of wear and tear. The Vivosun keeps the light out so I can run 12 hours in complete darkness during flower. That's all I need it to do and it does that.

Many people say you need to spend a bunch of money to grow weed. You don't. I grow weed to save money. I chose to save another $250-$300 by buying a cheaper Vivosun tent. Had I spent more on an expensive tent nothing would have changed except a transfer of more money from my bank account to someone else's.

I'm sure someone will say what a piece of junk tent I have without being able to explain how other tents will make anyone's grow any better or why you need to spend the money on the most expensive tent. I've had my tent going on 4 years and have not had a single problem with it. Cost me $100 when I bought it. I have a Vivosun 2 x 4 as well. Works perfectly for the purpose it's designed for.

Brand matters not. All that's important is if the equipment gets the job done. If a vivosun tent can hang all that gear without bowing the support frames that's one solid value line tent. Nice score dude. Great recommendation too. I got top o grow brand tents. Cheap, but I would not recommend. Very thin aluminum support rods. If I look at them too hard the fuckers bow. I live by one philosophy in the garden: thou shall not overpay for gear :)

Covert isn't near as nice as Gorilla Grow. You can Google and find deals. I wouldn't get a light weight either that stuff all sucks.

Thanks for all the input guys, seems to be about as wide ranging as when I was first looking for a tent lol! The AC infinity ones look interesting but I am always a bit skeptical of new product, the specs and price look pretty good and I did upgrade to one of their 6" fans for my last grow so I might put that in the running. I am going to be using a 9x COB setup and the AC infinity fan/carbon filter setup so there will be marginal weight needs. I am debating on upgrading to an 8" fan vs the 6" I currently have although I will have to read up on the new models, I have seen a couple of complaints around here for the new stuff. The main thing I was looking at as an upgrade from my Jardin was the diamond pattern as that seems to do slightly better job at reflecting light. Thinking I will line up the AC infinity, Jardin, Gorilla and Covert and do some digging for deals and such and see what comes out on top. Getting excited to expand and try out some new strains with the new setup.

About 10 years ago Secret Jardin tents were pretty much top of the line, before Gorilla came out with their Heavy Duty models. My first tent was a Secret Jardin 2x2x5, that cost $125. I still use that tent to this day for starting seedlings and early veg. It has plastic corners but it is still a very heavy duty tent (for it's size) I needed more space for flowering so the next tent was a 3x3x6.5 Virtual Sun Hydroponics tent that cost $115. and it had the 2 door front opening similar to the gorilla style front doors and an all steel frame and 1680D canvas. I was pleasantly surprised with that tent. I used the 3x3 so much that I finally tossed it because the inside became so sticky from resin that it was a bitch to clean. I then decided to go with a cheap no name $100. 4x4 and I was not real impressed with it. The fabric was thin, there were issues with the zipper and light leaks, the poles were OK but had weak plastic corners. Anyhow, I have downsized due to space restraints and went with a Covert brand 24x48x79 and so far I am very happy with it. It has steel poles and the corners are plastic but they are very strong by design. I Like the extra height compared to some of the cheaper 2x4's. All in all it is a decent tent and I think the larger Covert 5x5 tent is 86 inches tall. I almost bought the Gorilla tent but the thing that I didn't like was that it only had 1 bottom, screened passive air vent vs. the Covert which has 2, not to mention the recent negative quality control reviews that Gorilla has been getting. Other than those 2 issues, I would have bought the Gorilla heavy duty version in a heartbeat, because I was looking for something with extra height, that will last me a good long time. Secret Jardin may not have the height but they are a solidly built tent, although some of their newer versions, the designs are different, with only 1 passive vent on the bottom. I hope some of what I wrote here about my experiences with different tents helps you make a good decision.

Thanks for the reply! I actually ended up going with the Gorilla Shorty 5x5 because it was the only one that would work in my space. I only have ~75 inches to work with and non of the other brands had a 5x5 that was short enough. It will be a couple inches shorter than my 3x3 Jardin but should not be an issue.

Imo based off price the ac infinity would have been better esp than a gorilla shorty. Also you could have fit a regular gorilla its under 7ft.

The AC infinity 5x5 is 80" and regular gorilla is 82" without the extension neither were an option for me. I probably would have tried the Ac Infinity if I had space since I like the built in panel to put the controller outside but shorty it is for now. With the extension The shorty is 68" I wish it was a few inches taller but it is what it is. I have had enough room in my Jardin so I don't expect any problems but we will see.
