5x5 LED setup

Hi all, I am new to the site and hungry for some feedback.

I’m starting a set up and before make any purchases, I wanna do my homework. I have a 5x5 tent and plan on growing 4 plants using coco in AutoPot . I’m wondering if I should do a mix of COBS (cree cxb3590) and QBs (304 or 288). Looking to use the same light fixture during both veg and flower stages. Please tell me what combination of COBs, QBs is sufficient or not. Thinking to stick with 3500K for COBs but if you think a combination of warmer, cooler colors is more suitable then please do tell.
Looking forward to reading all your responses. Thank you.

8xqb 288 or 304 would kick ass. 6 would work great also if you got single heatsinks and spread them out. Run them at 800-900 watts would put you right at the optimum sweet spot imo

Im pretty sure you should do 15 3590's on 3 bars everything 12-14 inches on center. So would be a 750 watt monster that you could dim to what ever you felt your garden needed. Its a beast of a light, nothing can beat it (maybe a DE hps not sure yet)

3590's are old/pricey.

Go with bridgelux EB gen 2 strips or Samsung f series strips.. Quantum boards are a less than ideal strip.. Use if you're bad with your hands and want nothing diy

Haha please you're going to tell me because you can post pics of a 5x5 filled with 3590s that its better than a tent theoretically (no photos posted) filled with mid power strips? Fuck you dog. You can chuck strips all around the plant, not so cost effective with cobs my friend!

Honest I love HID, cobs (hardlàry) and strips are king.

Op sorry your thread came to this. If you want to see the cob lamp with plants that may or may not help with your decision i will gladly post. Again sorry about temporary derailment.

Man all I'm saying is just because YOU can POST PICTURES of your 5x5 using 3590 cobs doesn't mean its the end of the thread because I can't post the equivalent area using strips? I'm not here to cause shit haha I don't even want to post, just trying to give an opinion. Sorry there's no photos of a 5x5 filled with strips to offer, I don't feel that negates my opinion though.

Come on guys. Cobs strips quantum boards all work. No need to get but hurt over it. That being said I haven’t used cobs or strips. I went from hid to quantum boards and that is the lights for me now. So easy and versatile and not to costly.

@3GT out of curiosity how much would enough strips cost for that? And how many diodess? Plus I am sure you would have to mount to something for heatsink like a channel. What would complete price be and how much time are you looking at to construct it? Seems I remember maybe led gardener doing a strip build and when it was said and done his time and material experience made it not even close to being worth while to quantum boards.

Can you post a picture? Did you use 3500K all the way or did you mix them up?

What kind of heat sink would you use? If I was to spread them out, I’m guessing 2 QBs positioned on top of each plant would do?

I would get the board with heatsink combos from hlg. I would do the single slate 2 heatsinks so you can max the boards and spread them out individually. They have 2 packs boards and heat sinks for I think 169. They also have some 2 pack scratch and dent heat sinks with board for 150. I picked up a pack of the scratch and dent and it is a dang good deal. The heat sinks were in good shape and fully functional

I took reflectors off. And this is the early flower pics. Yea all 3500k. Got more pics if need.
That’s awesome. You recommended earlier COBs all the way. However, I see your using QBs as well. Do you mind explaining why your using both? I’m not sure if I should go COBs all the way,
QBs or a combination of the two. Also, if I wanted to go with your set up, either COBs or QBs, what/how many drivers are you using? Bare in mind it’s a 5x5 tent with 4 plants only. TYVM

I built the COB unit about 1.5 years ago and never used it till now. The reason why the QB's are in there is because i want to see what does what in case I decide to switch out some hps lamps. This is my first LED run. This room used to be 3 1k hps.
