Hello friends .... today I open a window to a fleeting life.
Our hero at hand is a Cancer patient with 51 hrs to live ...

The person is holding an Open Thread ... I invite you to this experience ...

On Tuesday I'll finally end my battle with cancer thanks to Oregon's Death with dignity act. As part of my preparations I've ended my pain medication and am trying to regain what little dignity and clarity I can.
Who I was doesn't matter. I'm in pain, I'm tired and I'm finally being granted a small shred of respect. Feel free to AMA if you're so inclined.

I don't know whether to be happy because they have the choice to go as they choose, or to be sad because they (seemingly) only have people on the internet to reach out to.

Either way, it takes a strong person to make a decision like that. I don't think I could. At least at this stage in my life.
 
Internet is but a bridge.
I can never say that I know you Daath ... but I bet I know more of you
than some of the physical entities ... in your everyday life.

Internet is but a tool like-minded people use to communicate.

True. I thought about that too. There is something to this mental bridge that one doesn't always get in the flesh. The fear of persecution is almost eliminated. But you also can't replace fleshy human contact.

Your monitor can't hug you, and sometimes there are things that cannot be said through words.
 
That is true in every sense of the word dear sir !!
No comparisons might be drawn bwn physical contact
and soothing sound of human voice.

But I tripped on things with my friends across the world
and we communicated in pictures and music ... text and substances.

And u need a device for that either way !!
We had a great time.
I can't do that with my own brother in the flesh.

Hey puffer what a wonderful thing that u are doing. So true, " Nothing we have is worth hurting anyone else for". I am sending "hugs" and tons of respect for such a brave hero! Peace forever!

I also saw this on reddit today. I think that is why I really enjoy that website. They have a such amazing community not saying riu isnt. Which is why i believe this person shared the story with them knowing people would care . /trees love =)
 
well dont know what of much to say but i know i want to say something. passing on is just a part of life we all have to face one way or the other there is no way around it. my mother did the same and we all love and respect what she had to go thru in life with health and in passing, its sad we live in such an advanced world of medicine and tech where we could live healthier and longer but money plays a bigger toll for those who hold those powers. i hope life has been good to enough, even tho i hate the way certain things go that i have no say over i still love life and hope to get the most of it good or bad till my time comes. Bless you my friend and may your travels be easy, GOD giving, loving and uplifting. i do believe the physical life is just a stage we must travel thru and the bigger picture is much greater. Much LOVE and Respect

Wow that is a poem, I kept reading it over and over and over, it incapsulates alot of my believes of death. I have just slipped into another room, think of me as I was still there, don't agonize of my moving on, and I will be waiting for you soon you will becoming also. So crazy yet so true. Just another journey!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing.

I entered RIU planning on learning more about MJ, but I truly have met some people that have made my mind think, I thank you for that. I am that tough person, I am that hurting soul, the one that gets hit with emotions from poems like this.
