5000k is that enough?

I just went out and replaced my 60w plant bulb with a 120w equivent bult but only uses 23 wtts 1200 lumens and 5000k, someone suggested i get a light with 6500k but i couldnt find one. i hope this new one helps my plants grow( they have been growing extremely slow). I just want to know if this light is useble or should i get somehting else

You can get a 4pk of 100w equiv bulbs at lowes or home depot for 8 bucks.. Get 2 socket splitters and place 2 bulbs on each side over top of plant.That should hold u til u can upgrade more. Just thought bout something. How big are your plants?

5000k will grow ur plant to slow lots of them might work get u atleast 1 200 or 300w bulb to use with the small ones....6500k are pretty easy to find esp on like ebay but have found them at walmart 6400k are even better for veg...flower with 2700k

5000 is a decent combo bulb for veg and for flowering. Better at both ends of the spectrum but 5K will veg nice.

ive been vegging with 5000k cuz they were all i could find at the time, plant seems to be healthy

My suggestion would be think in Lumens and not watts. Use 6-8k lumens per plant in veg and 8-10k lumens per plant in flower as a guide.

Whilst Lumens may seem impressive..it's PAR you really need to get right! :) Cos thats the measure of usable light your plants can take in and use, I'd also add your right its not about how many Watts.. But more so about colour spectrum .. depending on the size of your grow will depend on how many lights,best colour spec,distance from canopy, and intensity for the best out-come..saying that there are many factor's in creating a divine plant, lighting is just one aspect :) Hope that helps..PS/ If your using CFL's can I surgest using a minimum of a 125W blue/red spec "ENVIROLITE" since these are bang on when it comes to PAR! and are fairly cool running !? - ZTELTHY :leaf:

5000k-5500k have the most PAR light than any other flouro all you need is that bulb. 5000k is also really ideal for seedlings and clones. personally if i was doing CFL i would do a mix of 5000k and 6500k for veg and 5000k only for flower.

the only difference between the 5000k and the 2700k is instead of adding yelow green phosphor they add blue phosphors.(like the 6500k)

oh and forget about talking about "equivalent watts" that does not mean shit. talk about actual watts you said 23 watts? well you need more light. get some 6500k ns some more 5000k for the futre get some of these too

5k for flower? Never heard anyone say that before. Almost everyone (except you who has never grown with CFL's) says 2700k for flower.

5000K has enough bleed over to 6500K,till you can get a 6500K bulb.I run 50/50 mix of 6500K/3000K for flower with nice resin production.

my studies are more based on T5 tech. but the bulbs all use the same phosphors so the rule generally applies. there are "better bulbs" but they are either specialty like the UVL 660nm or come in odd size like the sylvania plant and aquarium bulbs which are far redder than 3000k or 2700k but only come in 40w T12.

i have grown with CFL, T12, MH, HPS, MV, and T5.

just because everyone says jump off a cliff, doesnt mean you have to do it.

Approximately 2700k in hps is good for flower but not necessarily so with fluros. I use t12 and cfl mixed and have dumped all 2700K bulbs for 5000k. I have found plants to grow slower with 2700k fluros. I use a mix of 6500K 5000k and 4100k. Not sure but I don't believe its the color with fluros as much as it is light penetration. A 13 watt 4100k cfl has better penetration than a 23 watt 2700k. At least that is what I have found to work for me. I understand that what I see and what the plant sees may not be the same. What I and the plant can both see are less shaded leaves with 4100k. 6500k and 2700k produce a lot of odd leaf shadows that are not there with 5000k and 4100k. 6500k seems to produce a healthier green in veg. In flower, 6500k seems to be more of a strain issue.

run a 50/50 mix 6500k and 5000k i bet you will see the difference from your old lighting.
50/50 6500K/5000K along side my 3000K in flower?Are you talking veg only?
I have some 5000K cfl's,I can run an experiment in a seperate area when time permits.
My goal is to use light that the plants sees,and uses.My previous research shows that the inbetween spectrums do not supply enough for the A and B Chlorophyll absorption.

It is worth a try for some miday sun in the grow.

2700K is 2700K.............no matter what the source is.
