Are there any seasoned growers out there who have experience growing with 5 gallon buckets? I’m curious to know the yield and quality produced using this strategy.

Feel free to drop any suggestions for obtaining high yields.

I used to use 5 gallon buckets to grow large plants indoors using soiless mix. I since upgraded to 10 gallon buckets because I had to water twice a day when they were at their peak of growth (mid flower). I was able to pull 2.5 to 3 pounds per plant indoors, 3.5 to 4 when I changed to 10 gallon buckets. Id imagine the outdoor potential is a lot greater but the plants will need a lot of water. If they get top heavy they will fall over when the soil is dry so some sort of bracing will be required. For outdoors I would highly recommend a 20 gallon or larger bucket.

Felt pots? 10 gallons, 20 gallons? no risk of root bind..

100 gal felt pots can make you about 2-3 lbs with the right training and genetics.

200-300 gallons and you are making big BIG weight..

"Feel free to drop any suggestions for obtaining high yields" - Use bigger pots.

There's nothing wrong with using 5 gal pots, assuming these are issues you don't mind dealing with -
1. Minimizing your plant size to allow for hiding from your neighbors.
2. You're able to deal with root bound plants which may negatively impact your root zone.
3. If you're able to grow 'large' bushy plants, small pots tip over easily. Secure accordingly
4. If you're in a hot summer climate, you'll have to water much more often, probably twice per day or more.

If you have the option, grow in one 5 gallon, one 7 1/2 gal, and a 10 gallon pot. If stealth is goal, top, trim and stake down the taller plants.

Ok, we want to see the 3lb plants in 5 gallon pots. That sounds nearly impossible.

Well that was like 3 year ago but I did manage to find this picture, they are only a little lit into flower in that pic.

Had to water twice a day with those in 5 gallon pots. SMH ... the 10 gallon pots work much better.
Thats very impressive. What kind of fertilizers do you use to support that beast? Im really impressed a 5gal pot can support that large of a plants nutritional needs.

GH Flora 3 part, calimagic was all I used at the time. Was using Pro Mix HP then, changed to Berger BM6 HP. Ive also added Armor Si to my mix since then.

Amazing. And one more Q. Your pots look like sealed buckets with a waste line out. Are they basically dutch bucket setups? You drip 2X A day and the waste is tossed or reused? That was with pro mix potting soil you said or a perlite type soil less mix?

It is a bucket in a bucket. Top bucket has 1/4" drainage holes in the bottom, bottom bucket collects the runoff and pipes it to a floor drain. Top feed hand watered. I use the same setup now but with 10 gallon buckets and 3/4" hose instead of the 1/2". Check my signature link. The pro mix hp is basically a soiless mix with peat moss and perlite.
