$440 ounces @ Slater

What is the law on the amount of marijuana other medical cannabis products that a card holder can purchase in a set amount of time? For instance if I went to slater I'm sure there is a max amount in a visit? Or is there a daily/weekly/monthly amount a card holder can purchase?

When we took the tour, it was flat out stated that they weren't going to be selling $400 ounces. Guess what? Quarters going from $90 to $110 @ Slater. And I'm guessing the extra $$$ isn't going into the pocket of the growers. :(

Caveat emptor.

On the up side, I'm sure it will make current caregivers happy . . .
First post, I'm a lurker but I have to chime in on this one.
What is that place thinking???? I signed them up as my second caregiver and my current caregiver also sold to them but his meds were a lot more there than I pay for them. Not sure how this program will help me as I am on a tight budget (but not ssi) and can barely afford the compassionate pricing I already get "on the street". I actually thought they would be offering decent meds at decent prices but it seems like all med and prices are all over the map, topping off way, way, way out of my price range. I was really hoping to try some new strands and give my caregiver some suggestions on what helps me best (MS). I'm extremely let down like the rest of the state. Does anyone know if the one in newport will be running the same big business, screw the public pricing plan? And franklinstein, I don't think the money is going to the growers, mine was so insulted with their offer that he won't be going back to sell any more

Yeah, that was kind of a tongue-in-cheek comment. I know for a fact the $$$ isn't going to the growers. Your guy isn't the only one who said "screw these guys" when they found out the offer from Slater...

I believe you mean the green leaf compassion center that is supposed to open in Portsmouth, RI. They have a web site up with some info on there but no official open date or pricing.. I was given a flyer st canna when I got my doctor recommendation, they gave me one for Slater and a Green Leaf. I hope Green Leaf will be better price wise but I'm not holding my breath. They are located a lot closer to me so if they are comparable I would prob use them over slater, that is if they open!

Now that people are learning what theses compassion centers are charging and the red tape.. It's masking card holders look for other options because I'm also on a tight budget and can't afford over $400oz for meds! I'm def not going to buy lower quality stuff and I already spend several hundred a month on my other medications and doctor visits. I didn't expect to be given these meds but over $400 an ounce for any bud is way too much! I just got a bad feeling about slater when I saw the news clip of the place and interviewed one of the owners( I guess that's who it was ). He didn't seem like you typical dispensary owner that you see out in CA or CO who are deeply concerned for their patents getting top quality meds that they can afford. Now I don't know this guy so nothing against him but it seems like more of a local guy trying to make maximum profits.

I don't think these folks are stupid, many of them I know personally and have a huge respect for. I say we give them a little time to make adjustments, etc. After all, they had to start somewhere so as a biz, why wouldnt u start low and adjust as you need to? The only reason I can see is if you get too insulted with the first proposal or offer. One thing Joel was VERY clear about was that if you choose not to sell, no feelings are hurt and the door is never closed. If within a year, things don't level out and balance is not found, I think they will then realize that they shot themselves in the foot. RI is a funny community, all it takes is one rally call and people love to bitch. Point remains, and I'm not defending them in any way, just playing the devls advocate, but there are some folks who are fine with the pricing or buying the lower quality meds just to have safe access or any access at all and for that so if the center isn't for you (or me), then don't use it but if it fits the bill fo some, good for them. My big hope is to see it all balance out. The folks at the center have a good ear to the ground and many of the people behind the counters are the very ones who are familiar faces when it comes to the time when we show our faces and call for justice so I for one, will hold my tongue for the time being and give them a chance to prove we are all wrong in this thread. Time will tell

Well the problem with really high prices are that card holders who don't have any connections to caregivers who can grow for them at a god price have to use these places. I'm sure like a lot of people if I go into a dispensary to buy medical marijuana I want the best I can find to help with whatever condition they may have. I know I'm not going to go in and buy some low quality stuff, I'd end up buying a smaller amount of the meds I think are the best. It wouldn't bother me if there were many places open to compete with slater because then people who have no choice but to use compassion centers could go elsewhere. That would create competition and drive prices down. It's just kind of like a slap in the face to be the first compassion center to open and your gonna charge that much because you know you can and people will pay as of right now... :wall:

well the green leaf compassion center is now accepting patients.they are scheduled to open on may 31st.they are already advertising for delivery service.also i found out that if you are a new patient there is no charge to add a compassion center as a caregiver as long as you add them on your 1st application(the same app you mail in for your actual card).there was a thread somewhere about somebody getting refunded there $25 by the DOH and this is why.hope this info helps.

The problem is until they grow their own I don't think they are going to have the best. I don't see many care givers giving them their "best" at a straight $125 across the board. I have a strain that yields 20% less than most others but I continue to grow it because my patients love it. If I was growing for the centers I would never grow that strain, yeild would be my main factor in deciding strains.

Even when they grow it themselves i bet it wont be the best around.or much cheaper. They are growing for quantity not quality..And who knows what these meds test at cause for all we know KYG labs boosts or low balls test results to benefit the center.

How many of you naysayers have actually BEEN to Slater. Because if you did, you would know the most expensive ounce is $360.00. $55 eighths do NOT translate to $440.00 ounces. There are plenty of $25.00, $35.00, and $45.00 eighths available. There are also $176.00 mold free, tested ounces. How about you come down and see for yourself instead of listening to uninformed opinions disguised as truths by "butt hurt" members of this "community"? Yeah, I'm looking at you "Highflyr"

There are still meds that will end up on the street.. It's always going to happen! They can still monitor patients buying if they have to show a card when they buy at one of these places. How is limiting a patients options giving the state more control? It's only going to drive prices up because card holders won't have as many options. It's just stupid the whole making them your caregiver and having only 2 spots... Not everyone can grow or knows a grower so they will rely solely on these places and the way the law is right now is just wrong. Every card holder has a number right? They have to show their card when they buy something I'm sure.. So how is making a certain store your caregiver helping? They still need to check your card and prob enter it into some system or something. These prices piss me off and the extra waiting time pisses me off!

I was thinking the same thing about the labs possibly being distorted to benefit the labs and their future negotiations with growers. That's why growers who sell to these places who have any doubts need to have their products tested independently.
