42CM Tall Rubbermaid Grow Box or 60 CM Tall Wooden Built Grow Box?

Hey guys,

I am currently deciding how should I built my grow box and I want your guys help. Stealth isn't a huge issue so either way works (i'll be using a carbon filter regardless on which box).

I just was thinking how am I going to hide the fans & i wanted to put a pad lock just incase but this doesn't rule out this as a grow box since it'll be ultra cheap to make it into a grow box.

Second option:

I was thinking about going to homedepot and getting them to cut me some wood and building my own grow box with a door + a pad lock. I think this option will be better because I get to customize the dimensions of it fully + its allows me to position the chicken wire & do LST 10x easier then the rubbermaid grow box. The height of this will be around 60-75cm which is nice. Just my budget on wood is about $50.

Right now I have the majority of things I need. All I need now is the Base of a grow box & a carbon filter.

So whats your guys opinions on this.

I'll be posting some of my hand made drawings on how this grow box will look soon.

Id do the wood. Youll feel more satisfaction building your own and like you said, you can customize it. Besides, plastic will melt if it gets too hot. What light you gonna use?

im going to use 4 23watt cfl's for veg probably going to do 1-2 plants max and going to use 4 23 watt cfl (top, 2700k) + 2 13watt cfl (sides, 2700k) for flowering. If I do 2 plants I'm going to put one light on the left one on the right and one in the middle for flowering so the bottom gets light so my buds are proper

What is your budget? Home Depot has the pre fab wooden cabinets for closets and garages, they would make a good cab! They also have the plastic storage cabinets, either one would work!

I don't really wanna waste more than $50 on the wood. I might go for a plastic storage cabinet if its not toooo tall. How much are the cheaper wooden cabinets at homedepot canada?

The plastic ones they had a 36" and 72" tall one... They had the shorter wooden ones i think at $80, the larger ones went to $180 but they were like 24" deep and 48" wide, you could easily partition the wide one and make a flower and veg cab out of it.

I checked the plastic ones and they had really bad ratings :S the wooden ones were too big and the smalls ones were to expensive. I might go to ikea and check there and walmart. I think the tallest I want the grow box to be is 1m (so I don't have to go buy 400watts of cfls, with 1m I can get by with 3 43watt cfls + 4 23watt cfls)

Not much clearance there. At 3 '(1m) you lose 6" with the light and 6" with the pots, that leaves 2 foot and at that they will be touching the light.

If you have the money and the time, the wood is a better choice to me. Just make sure you spray it down beforehand with some sealant to prevent mold.

im not using hps according to my design ill only loose 3" with my lights. Im going to lst/scrog the shit out of them
