Hi there,

I have been lurking here for years now and when I had an opportunity to pick up a free 3'x2'x7' HON storage cabinet...well...I wasn't going to be denied!! I bought foam weather stripping, which fit nicely into the corners of the doors and then taped over them with reflective tape. Taped the rest of the seams and, added weather stripping to the door frame and voila, no purple light escaping!! I used a hole saw to cut a nice circular hole in the back of left corner for the power cord and plugged the cord with one of those ezcloner neoprene puck things...that and a some well applied tape!

Critiques?

Props to Rumpleforskin, as I followed his bubble bucket design and also made a cloner from his plans as well.

Ignore the PVC in the upper right corner (inside the cabinet)...I am taking that out and will be connecting flex duct to my carbon filter instead...no idea what the hell I was thinking!!

p.s. That's a 500W Blackstar hanging for light leak testing. I plan on putting a 180W Blackstar inside as the 500W already has a home.

p.s.s. Can posts be deleted or moved? I posted this to the wrong forum originally and reposted it here.

Great box! How much ventilation do you have in there?
Have 1 pc fan exhausting out a 4" pvc elbow. It could keep the box at 83 with the doors shut for 1 hour. Since I am putting in a 180w Blackstar, this cab will be cool as can be....well then again I am also remvoing the pc fan and PVC for a better design. Ducting, duct fan and carbon filter inside (I was going to place it outside of the cab). I don't plan on a fan to bring air in, as the doors are sealed with weatherstripping foam that block light but allow air to flow through the pores.

Sure glad I didn't glue all that PVC together...would be a bitch to remove and besides I can return it!! Muhahha

Really??? Your only intake is that foam? Better go and take drill and make there some nice holes. Those leaves need air to make you buds.

Yeah, I was looking at doing that a few minutes ago actually. I think I am about to update this to cabinet version 2.0..stay tuned

I would suggest buying a cheap house vent, then cut the correct size hole and place the vent over the hole for a passive intake. That's what I use on my cab and it works great.

Are you talking about the kind that are in the floor / ceilings that direct air flow? If that's what you are talking about, what about light leaks?

If you are that concerned about light leaks you can take a cardboard box and make a cover for it. There are a ton of options. You should understand that out door plants are not in pitch black at night and they still flower, you have sunlight shinning off of the moon and man made light such as HID street lamps. So an indoor plant doesn't need to be 100% in the dark, but the closer to it the better. Here is the link to the vent on my cab, see how the slits are pointed down, it helps keep light out, then my cab is against the wall (about 2"-3" from it) which also helps. You need air entering your cab, that's how your plants are going to get CO2.
