400w to 600w Comparison

Hi Everyone,

Im super baked and can't do the maths!
I have a 400w Setup and my friend got ridiculous good deal on a 600w setup same standard as mine and wants to swap coz he can't run it.
So for me its a winner!

But my electric bill is high enough and want to know if there is a major jump in electric to the 600w? I mean I know its an extra 50% but surely not an extra 50% on the bill?

Also how much extra heat it put out compared to 400w?

Be great to know anyone who has upgraded.

If my 400w setup costs £20 a week to run for example how much 600w cost?

Tempted to get the 600w coz im about to flower be great boost!

Or simple estimate 20 x .333 + 20 = 26.66 pounds

Thanks man! like I say most that went over my head.... damn that bowl... ha... but near enough an extra 50% but not quite an extra 50%. If I say £28 a week not too bad and not far off. What about heat difference?

The extra 50% is the Light output Not the wattage

Your Getting a Lot more lumens But you are only upping the wattage a 1/3

Its like Buying a More fuel efficient car. It uses a 1/3 more gas but goes twice as fast while doing it

Arrrr im understanding more now. So your getting more 'bang for your buck' then. Little more expense but more product. And I only have 4 under my 400w but I am thinking with a 600w could do 6/8 plants a time increasing yield/output making more money to pay the bill...

Easily. And I would say if you have the Room you could do 16

Really? i use a half a wardrobe so would have to move my clothes ha.
I use 11l pots but inside wardrobe painted white.
Wanna start cloning so could be good time. Heat is just leaving door open now and again.

Does anyone know how many more degrees the 600w puts out compared to 400w?
Would have more space to move around so as be emptied out so may not be too bad im thinking....

Im not sure of the heat Output But you must be growing some trees
I remember a long time ago having 16 under a 400 watt. And it all worked out fine

16 under 400w! you must be mad! I like to finish em around 4/5ft so 600w would benefit.
Really hoping electric not much more or mum will kill me! ha.

Im surpirsed she isnt killing you for using 400 watts
It would be a Great Upgrade. Does it come with an air circulating Hood?

And the key To growing 16 under 400 is
keep them under 3 foot, Use Scrog or Sog techniques or super crop them

Of Course when I did it
I didnt do any of the above used bag seed
And ended up with about 8 ozs of Mixed quality product

Yeah. Gonna try swap lights without telling her its an 'upgrade' ha.
Tbh like i say im trying to help them financially and paying for most the houses electric myself!
I wanna start getting perpetual with I upgrade to this 600w. I said to my friend if he pays the diff in electric I will swap he said yeah so all good. In return Im giving him clones. I don't mind that

Hoping to just have whole room of Northern Lights or Big Bud eventually.

I pay an extra £40 a month to run a 600w lamp, a 110w fan, a 55w fan, an 85w heater, Osc fans, pumps etc.

Damn that's alright! Unfortunately on a stupid high rate paying back electric company as my parents got in debt so we on a meter we top up -_- pain in the arse. Just had to drive mile down road as on 20p. I try top it up 40/50 a go and lasts couple weeks for my grow and only added 10 here or there for reg house stuff.

Just hoping by leaving door open like I do now be enough to vent this 600w bad boy!

600's generate ALOT of heat.

I use a 660m3h fan just for my lighting rig. That exhausts from a walk in closet into the attic which then has extra ventilation to help disperse the heat. If you are exhausting a 600w straight into the same room your grow is situated in then that room is gonna heat up big time.

Does it really pump out that much more then a 400? My set up sounds same as yours. Not to much of a walk in but built in to the wall wardrobe with door open just let air flow in to room and open window when I'm home. Bloody cold here these days.
Was also thinking of the chance a helicopter picking it up on a flyover? I have loads of helicopters always around here and never paid too much attention with a 400w but is a 600w more of a concern?

A 600w is nothing.

Alot of the chopper hype is propaganda. With all these conservative budget cuts cops aren't interested in the 1 light growers unless you deliberately flaunt the fact you're growing.

I notice you talking about selling crops. Just be careful selling. I personally don't sell my weed I was just sick of paying £240 for ounces from little kids.

A 600 as I said does need venting but I have managed 1crop venting into the room where the closet was. Then I saved enough from not buying weed that I was able to cool tube my 600w. Then after 2 years I completely overhauled my closet. Including removing the door from it's original location into a completely new wall. Which moved the closet from a spare bedroom into my bedroom.

What getting at here is that you should be able to muddle your way through for now but at some stage before spring and the weather gets better you're going to need to sort out ventilation.

Regarding selling yeah I will be but I'm not a street dealer. One guy known for years I trust with my life and won't say where he got his stuff from, IE me, will take as much as I can produce bulk and take it in one go for cash and re sells bulk to couple other people. Go through 2/3 people before gets to anyone else on street.

My setup really is so similar to yours. I shall muddle through for now and see how get on and soon as sell a bit wanna but a filter and fan pumping into the loft. I wish I could use my light to heat my whole house! We can't afford heating. At least my bedroom may now be warm.

Once you ventilate properly you can pump it wherever you want.

My house has 3 yr old windows and a 9 month old boiler so I don't really need the heat in my house plus my closet is actually quite stealth. Once I moved the door I built a insulated stud wall so I then had storage in the shape of a long walkway down to my closet door. In this wall is a hidden door.

If you check out my started threads I have one called my closet re-design where I show before pic of my closet and then building my new room up.

It will help show you what to aim for. It shows fan positions filter positions intakes exhausts. Also included in pictures is the extra attic ventilation I installed.

A good reflector makes all the difference. Mine was £200.

If you can get cold air from outside then yeah! I run a 1000w and that's the only warm enough room in the house these days. I pull air in from outside into the tent, through the light and exhaust into the room. It's so cold at night right now that even that room isn't as warm as I'd like it.

Now to deal with the electric increase. *sigh*
(by deal with i mean shut up and pay it) fingers crossed will work out profitable in the end.
