400hps what kinda fuse in plug adopter "german to uk/ireland"

Hi there people of of rollitup

i've just gotten a new 400 watt hps light kit it came with a german plug socket :oso i'm gonna have to get a uk/ireland adopter socket for it, i'm not so good with electrical stuff so i was wondering if anyone could help me with what amp fuse i should get in the adopter i've read 5 amp fuse for lights but i'm not sure :-? i already have a 13 amp one but i'm not sure if that will work, this will be my first time to grow i thought i had everything covered but electrics just ain't something I'm good at so all help appreciated. :-o

I think the current it will draw at 240v will be 400watts of power divided by the voltage of 240 so 400/240= 1.66 amps so a 3amp fuse should be alright? Someone please confirm that though, im not 100%

Are the adapters readily available? if not why not cut the wire and just connect a UK plug? Its just screwing down 3 wires.

It doesn't work like that, although i see your reasoning.
HPS lamps are slightly different to most electrical appliances because the ballast requires a huge surge to ignite the lamp.
So the question that should really be asked is what fuse do I need for the ballast.
Is it the 2-pin, round type plug (CEE7/4) with earth connectors on the edge?
Germany (I used to live in Berlin and just needed a simple adaptor to run my stuff I took over there from England) runs on 240V so the fuse rating should stay the same as supplied in the original plug.
Easiest way is to buy an adaptor. If the German plug is sealed, changing it will invalidate the warranty.
If you do change the plug, wiring colours are the same as uk, although only getting the earth (green/yellow) right is important. You may have noticed that the german plug can be put in upside-down!

MorroN and cues thank you guys very much for your help i plugged the light into the adopter then got a dim white light which quickly turned orange/yellow color and got brighter and brighter it is running very impressed. i'm really surprised by the heat of the bulb lol as i was just testing it out right now i will not be growing in the house I'm currently living in i just carefully placed the some books at each side of the reflector just an inch each side to hold it from the ground it actually burned the paper for a second i thought my bulb was on fire I'm a very nervous person with electrics lol i'll try not starting a fire i shall begin my first grow within the next few weeks i hope. don't worry i have chains for the reflector hehe, probably either white widow or some kind of kush I'm thinking at the moment but still sure, .thanks again for the help guys i really appreciate it.

No probs. Sounds like a normal start-up. All HPS lamps start like that. Good luck mate.
