i was wondering if this would be alright and how far should i keep the light away from my newly hatched seedlings

ur using the right bulb and all i dont see anything wrong with using it ....

I use a MH for my seedlings and vegiing. Just make sure to watch the temp and not to have the light too close to your babies!

That's what Grandprix is asking - how close? Start at about 36", untill they have grown a couple of inches. Then start lowering the light a couple of inches each day untill you find the "comfortable warm zone".
