400 watt hps tent....how many plants?

So I got a hand me down 40x40x78 grow tent with a 400watt hps cool tube and a 400cfm 6"fan and carbon filter
I was wondering how many plants can I grow in soil in 1 gallon pots in this setup.
What is your recommended veg time.
Also should I vent outside or will the carbon filter be enough to kill the smell.
What can I yield with this set up?

P.s. I already have a 150watt grow fridge I might use as my veg room

I would grow no more than 5 in a tent that size under a 400... With a 1 gallon pot, I would veg no more than 3 weeks and thats even pusing it.. I would go 3 gallon and veg for 4 weeks if I were you.... 1 gallon pots are going to give you problems vegging more than 2 weeks and your yeilds will be miniscule.... either way, best of luck....
 
Sog - 12-9 small plants with 0-1 week veg
Typical growth pattern - 4 with a 3-4 week veg
Scrog - 1-2 with a 4-6 week veg.

With 1 gal pots I would recommend a sog of 9 plants.

The carbon filter should be enough if used correctly.
 
use 3 gallon nursery pots they should fit and as smokey says 5 -6 plants top
i have grown 8 under a 400w and then realized 6 would be more ideal
veg time is entirely up to the grower
u got the height so why rush it
 
i say you start going to cirkle K and drinking polar pops all day, and sog 30 of them in polar pop cups...they grow to anywhere from 18-30 in. or so from the top of the cup...thats also 12/12 from seed. if you use a 400w hps you can expect about 1/2 to 21 grams per plant...600w being ideal, and up to 1 ounce per girl with proper temperature, and environment.

this next time around im finally going to give 12/12 from seed a chance
followed lots of threads on it and if figures are correct get same yield in 3 vs 6 months

thats a no brainer then

I think ill go grab 6 3 gallon pots and try that for my first round with the new set up.
How close can I keep the 400w hps cooltube to the tops of my girls.

about twelve inches use your hand to judge

hold hand below light and if too hot to hot for plants
 
I hang a chain from the end of my light at the length I want to stay from the plant with my temp sensor hanging off the chain just above the canopy. That way I always no what the temp on the hottest tops is and how far to raise the light to stay in my range. I raise to an inch or 2 above the tops during veg and raise again when the bottom of my chain is an inch or 2 into the canopy. Less range after the flowering stretch.

I personaly just keep to 3 plants in 6 gal pots LST the shit outta then for 2 months and then you got some monster bushes! but thats me...

12" is quite far from the plants isn't it? I keep my 400 between 4" to 6" above canapy. Mine isn't aircooled either. I guess just having the tent in the basement solves most heat issues.
