I just received my 400 watt hps..i realized i dont have the tools to hang this from a ceiling..so was wondering..is there any point to try to just aim this at the plants from the floor angling upwards? I will likely just return it..but since its here..was wondering if there is any use to these lights other than hanging from up above?

Build a stand out of 2x4's. Get you some s hooks, some chains and screw hooks. Sun system has a adjustable sun stand thats pretty sweet for 100 bux or so. HPS is horizontal only. T-5s work great if hung vertical but your HPS will make much bigger and thicker buds.

Ya...that's why i got the hps..but im gonna stick with the lights i have already...no more room to install another light and im not the construction type to build a frame to hang the hps lol. I thought if it was beneficial in any way, i can just sit the hps on the floor angled upwards, but im guessing that wouldnt help much..was just a thought befor returning the light.

The only option i find is maybe to just use the light only..have it hang down with the junction box and no reflector..just the bare bulb..would this lose a lot of efficiency..i have mylar in the growing space.

Is it a hood or an open reflector? Perhaps look into vertical growing if you can't hang the fixture.

I picked up the missing parts to assemble the light, and went with pvc pipes as my frame so as to avoid any drilling and holes. The light is with the batwing reflector.

Putting an hid light on the floor is a good way to burn your house down. No offense but growing indoors does need a basic understanding of power tools, building and even more importantly an understanding of electrical wiring and hazards.

I have an understanding of electrical wiring..but I purchased the light..didn't design and assemble it myself, also im not doing anything to the wiring of my building or fuse panels..simply plugging it in the wall, not much knowledge required there:) As for power tools...no, they're not for me at all..im not into building anything! lol. The pvc pipe frame worked..its hanging fine and stable, didn't need to drill anything thankfully lol. Glad I went with this instead of the 600 watter...still freezing temps where I am, temps are 21-22 in the house, but 28 under the lights and its not in an enclosed area at all..will not be using it for the 2 summer months, but plants are happy for now..even though the damn mh bulb that came with it is 4000K and not the 6500 I was hoping for.

I'm using the frame out of an 8x4 tent in a spare bedroom so I don't have to mess up the popcorn ceiling. Room is only 9x9 so why set up a tent.

MH bulbs can be anywhere from 2200K to over 10,000K. I have a cheapo PlantMax that is 7500K and will try using it the last 2 weeks of flower to get some extra UV light at the end. A lot of growers use the 10,000K ones for that.

HPS is horizontal only.
Funny. Mine say Universal Positioning on them.

What is my current lighting? Ummm, i think the title of this thread says it all, as do my comments:) People need to read some more!

Had you read the other post, you would have seen that i installed the hps light with a pvc pipe frame..so when you ask my 'current lighting', this hps is the current lighting..sorry, i assumed you actually read the thread before commenting.
My previous lights were led's and some smaller cfl's, and they were suspended from the bottom part of my coffee table shelf that is a metal grid design..and that shelf was resting on top of 2 book shelves on either side..the wires passed through the grids and up and out of the setup..mylar was put to hang on the 3 sides and also the opening, which was a standup mirror with mylar taped to it.

i'd REALLY like to see pics of that....
Unfortunately, the last pics i took of any grow was last may, then my phone died and i never replaced it. So i actually have no pics of the current setup. This is the only pic i found that shows a tiny bit of the lights. There was a mars 300 hanging (tied to the bottom of the grid) in between all the cfl's. At this point i wasn't using the book shelves to support the coffee table shelf, but rather on one side it was the glass from the coffee table (slightly leaning against a heavy chair which was anchored down) and the right side was the metal frame of it (that's visible in the pic, leaning against the wall). When i got the cob light..i raised everything with the book shelves instead, and made it about a foot or so wider and the cfl's are only there for veg, and then at mid flower for side lighting if the plants get too big.
