ive started my seedlings with a 400 mh digital ballast. it is about 3 1/2 feet above the starts. my room temp is been 80-85 when light is on and 70-75 with light off. im running the light 18-6 will this cause me any problems? i didnt have any fluorescents to start the seeds with so i hung the light higher as to not get them to hot... its been 3 days and they have broke ground. Advise??

your light will be fine, if my 1000w'er didnt set my seedlings ablaze you should be pretty safe. But you have yourself one huge light as well so make sure not to put it too close, isnt 600w 2ft rule? may be 3ft like 1000w as well I guess it depends on how you cool it.

That's pretty much exactly how my clone/seedling room is set up The only difference is mine's on 24/7. Works fine for me.

yeh dude, i got my shit hooked up in a tent with a 600w MH. My seedlings are doin great man. Im usin a cooltube, with a 540cfm fan running through from my filter, through my tube, n exhausting out of the room. so as long as you keep your light nice n cooled, you can move the light as close as possible. Just remember the hand rule. Put your hand between the plants and the light. If its too hot, move it up. If it aint, and you think you can get away with movin it closer than do it.

good luck bro!!

hey i've been thinking about getting a cooltube, how effective do you find it to be? the thing is that my closet is my grow space, and come flowering time, it gets way too hot once i need it lightproofed.

how hot were your temps before and after the cooltube?

Rock on man! I just actually flipped on my 400w hps for my 5 White Russian Autoflowers I've just started!! I had them under a cheapo... and I mean cheap! It's a blacklight fixture that I bought yyeeaarrss ago and threw a very soft... cheap... tube in it and let them establish with that... but I think they were stretching too much for more light so I finally flicked the fucker on just literally 5 min ago and set my remote temp probe leaf hight to see what the temps are like... the bulb is about 2ft from the top leaf in a 2x2ft area in a 2x6x8ft closet and I've got a fan on low on them with a 250cfm squirrel cage vented up through the chimney from the top of the closet dry wall... and doesn't feel at all hot... we'll see what the temp is here in an hour or so.

I've asked this before and everyone who responded told me to use fluros cuz my hps was too much... so I just raised it after reading this and giving it a go! Let me know how yours turn out man!! I'm also going straight hydroponicly with the drip method and they're in 4x4in rockwool and gonna transfer them into 5L pots and clay pellets in a couple weeks... if all goes well!!

Goodluck buddy! Cheers! :bigjoint:
