i dont have bundles of cash and im buying in the UK, ive had some luck and will soon be able to purchase a lamp for flowering, ive decided on a 400, and ive seen a 400 digital grolux, are they any good ?

here is what it says on the web site...

What does this product do?
This system provides artifical light for your plants for indoor environments. This light is powered by a digital [electronic] ballast that produces more lumens, runs cooler, & uses less power than traditional ballasts.
400w Electronic Poot (digital) grow light
Professional highly efficient lightweight all-in-one electronic (digital) light unit.
Ideal in commercial installations for supplementary lighting and indoor gardening.
Be amazed with the saving the digital grow light can bring you, through less power consumption and more units per electronic circuit due to its low amp rating.
This superior product offers the latest in digital technology. The unit comes complete, fully wired and ready for immediate operation. The unit is lightweight and its electronic design offers the user a host of advantages over the traditional ‘core and coil’ type ballast. This unit produces less heat and in turn produces more light, in operation the ballast also monitors the status of the lamp in the circuit and is able to vary the power provisions ensuring the lamp maintains the same output throughout the lamps use.
Incorporates many new safety features:
- Light in weight (2.80kg)
- Reduced heat output
- Super heavy-duty mains cable
- No reflector plug/ socket
- Hard wired for additional safety
- Superior lamp life
- low power consumption 1.8a

All these features are house in a unique cast Aluminium extrusion, which offers greater strength, ultra cool running and long life.
This unit is manufactured to high quality standards and meets all applicable EC directives on safety and EMC Emissions.
Sylvania Grolux - Blue & Red spectrums: vegetative/flowering
- Suitable for up to 6-8 mature plants.
- Specifically designed for both vegetative growth and flowering cycle.

A very popular all round lamp that offers improved spectrum but also retains its high lumen output. The improved spectrum and extra levels of blue and red light make it excellent for vegetative or flowering growth.
This improved metabolic function (Chlorosynthesis, photosynthesis, etc) giving good health and a green colour. The large levels of yellow / orange inherent in the high pressure lamp ensures the plants gets lots of energy through photosynthesis for vigorous growth and high yields.

What is like to ask is, would i be better off with a fan cooled hood and a normal hps lamp, or shall i take the plunge and give this lamp a go ?

its the only money i have so i really want to get it right..

that will work just fine. with a good air flow and exhaust you should not have a heat problem

well it does seem ideal for me actually......thanks guy, im looking at others too, but yea, im liking this one best, so far...

the only thing that bothers me is the size of the reflector....any thoughts on that pls anyone ?>

Im uk grower with a 400w hps and make sure take careful consideration on the heat it will throw out. That one has its ballast attached so will create more heat then one with seperate ballast....thats only issue I see... if heat not a problem i would go for it.

With that reflector ur gonna have to hang it pretty high above the plants or build ur own somehow...Hanging it high will cause stretching also...Or u can use it for just 3-4 plants tightly packed..JMO..GL

im planning on 2 at a time , i veg with a cfl,[ no stretching ] next grows gonna be lst.

are you saying , based on the shape of the reflector i need to hang it high to maximise light spread ?

the advert claims otherwise with the heat tho ?

they claim it generates LESS heat

i just want a GOOD 400 hps lamp, i dont mind using air cooled either.

this one seemed to be the answer
