3rd Supercloset Trinity scrog Grow Questions - Anyone have experience with DWC?

Hi everyone, I read a lot on this forum but don't post much. But now I hope I can get some help from you guys experienced in DWC about a few general things!
I have grown in these closets a couple times now, but have been mostly unsuccessful in my attempts to have a good yield. Basically, I jumped in right away and learned a lot of things the hard way. I now realize I certainly was facing root rot due to being lazy essentially, but those days are behind me lol. :-P I also had a bout with spidermites. I know now that I had no chance of combating them in the stage i disovered it due to the aforementioned laziness. I've done a lot of learning about preventing root rot, etc. But I am still confused about a few things that I really hope to get educated on before I start the next grow, which must be successful!

I plan on seeing what the hype is about regardless of other options out there, and going with the full line of AN nutes.

Sensi Grow A+B
Connoisseur A+B
And all the supplements up to grand master. I just want the highest chance of these plants to thrive!!

The veg closet has a 400w MH and a 16 site DWC system with drip-feeders. Flower closet is the same except a 600w HPS

I ordered 10 fem seeds of C99 BX-1 and a 3 pack of fast bud #2. I'm probably going to crack about 7 of the C99 seeds and hopefully all 3 of the fast bud to make a total of 10 plants vegging

It'll be a scrog, and I'll probably let them veg for about 2-3 weeks before moving all the plants over to the flowering closet. I figure the fast bud will finish in a couple months total from seed and I'll harvest those way before the C99. Then I'll just be waiting on those ladies. BUT to the point, I seriously cannot make any mistakes and lose to root rot or spidermites again somehow! So please bare with me as I copy and paste my list of questions. Answers to any of them are greatly appreciated.

what is the BEST way of preventing spider mites altogether? the closets are in a basement, so might i be more prone to them regardless of a clean grow environment? should i be putting something else in the res every fill up to ward them off?

should i be putting H202 in my reservoir at every fill up to help prevent root rot? i feel like i should be, if so how much for a 15 gallon/57L rez?

would the H202 interfere somehow with all the nutes during flowering?

best technique for yield in SCROG?? (topping/supercropping/etc)

should i drip-feed the plants while lights are off at all?

can i use tap water of 85-100ppm in vegging/flower ifthe ph and ppm are within a good range after mixing or should it strictly be clean water as i've used in the past?

i've heard after you fill the water up to the bottom of the net cups in the cloner the first fill, you shouldn't fill it that high again to prevent rot. is this true?

Anyone that can help me with these questions I thank you greatly!! have a great day everyone :leaf:

one prevention for mites and other bugs is NEVER bringing anything into your room that might have been sitting outside for awhile. IF you HAVE to for some reason clean it VERY VERY good and i would sterilize it with some H2o2.

h2o2 shouldnt interfere with your nutes in any stage.

i was reading up on the FIM topping and still have some notes in front of me. a lot of people are using this method with scrog. best time to start is around 5-6 inches tall and or after the 4th set of nodes. i cant give you a step by step on it but its not hard to find out how. its more or less spreading the leafs apart at the top of your node and finding the little leaf bud deep down the middle and clipping 3/4 of it off and this should give you 8 or more new sprouts from this one area.

and i read best time to do some topping on the plant is 3 to 4 weeks in to veg

drip feed all the time, dont want your roots drying out and killing the plant

and your water SHOULD be fine but not sure on it

Thank you for the response that answers a few of my questions pretty well. And that was a good description of that FIM topping without me looking it up yet, I'll probably try that.

Thanks again

ya im somewhat new to this myself so im sorry i couldnt answer all of your questions. good luck with it!

I have a trinity and a few tents, all using the same Supercloset components. In my short experience w/root rot I found that using peroxide worked well, but it dissipates w/in 3 days in your reservoir. Costco has bottle sets of 2 that are cheap and perfect for the 15 gallon reservoir. 1 bottle is appropriate for the entire reservoir. But you need to figure out why you are getting it instead of merely treating it.

When putting plants into the 16 superponics reservoir, you are initially told to fill up to the bottom of the net cups, about 17 gallons. But you only do that the first time. Actually, I always put 15 gallons in (3 -5 gallon jugs) and never fill with 17 gallons anymore, ever. My first run, I didn't know that once the roots are down you only fill as high as 1" under the net cups (15g). I kept getting root rot because I was filling too high. I always have peroxide on hand, but I use Aquashield and sensizyme with each feeding, every 2 weeks. Since I started filling the reservoir with only 15 gallons, I've never had that problem again.

Ive never had mites, all my equipment is in one locked room and no one but me is allowed in. Don't allow pets in the area. You can sprinkle borax around the inside perimeter of your entire basement, it deters pests. I believe neem oil is a natural and effective way to get rid of them, although the smell is hideous. It would be wise to get a bottle to have on hand. Dyna-gro is great and cheap. Research neem oil as it has many properties widely used by growers.

If you have never grown before, it would be wise to get the hang of it w/o scrogging. Pick your strain(s), and grow them with the controlled environment of just the trinity. You need to have knowledge of your strain before you really pump out high quality with ease. The more strains you grow, the more factors you have to consider. My first grow had 3, one of which was vanilla Kush which had nute requirements that the others didn't, as a result, all my plants were never happy at the same time. The next grow, add another factor like CO2, the next one try scrog. The reason for this is that you will be limiting the things that cause problems, overall making you a more effective gardner quicker. If you start off with 3 steains, SCROG, CO2, pumped up nutes, etc, you'll have too many factors to consider when problems arise, and they will arise. It's a bigger headache than just being patient.

It is an industry standard that your first hydroponic grow you harvest about 25-35% of your potential (grams per watt), the next grow is usually 35-55% of your potential, and so on. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, but I'm always one to ere on the side of caution when making financial planning decisions. My first trinity grow, riddled with root rot and errors definitely fit into this statistic. I spent a ton of money to learn the phrase KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID (KISS). Hydro stores make money off of your problems. I can't tell you how many times I was sold a product that I didn't need, was overly expensive, and created a larger problem than the one I started with that still wasn't effectively treated. I like my hydro store guys and wish them well, but every time I walk in there, they want me to spend $50-100, it isn't necessary. It's a weed, it knows how to grow.

Dont drip feed at night in the dark. It promotes mold and rot. Feed every 3 hours for 15 minutes during lights on. This may fluctuate to every 2 hours or every 4 hours depending on your strain, environment and which stage you are in. Learn to read your plants.

My tap water is over 500 ppm! I'd love to have yours. Your ppm is at an acceptable level, but on the high side. You likely have calcium in your h20, so you will need to consider that as your plants begin to show signs of nute issues. I use RO, I need to add cal mag, you will likely need to use less so as not to lock out other nutes. When figuring out your nute ppm, subtract your starting h20 ppm. When posting online for help, make sure to note whether you are including your h20 ppm in the total, or not. This will help others. Make sure to leave your h20 out overnight to dissipate the chlorine.

Find a growing philosophy and grower that you enjoy, and stick by that. Resist the urge to jump from one thing to another (adding too many factors). I like Uncle Ben's approach. You can find him on RIU. he's been growing for 50+ years and has realistic approaches which also happen to be extremely affordable. He can be a bit short and sometimes comes off as rude, but his advice is based on plant botany as opposed to growing weed.

When you are stressed out and can't figure out what to do, empty the reservoir and refill with plain water or RO for at least 24 hours. Some suggest 30% nutes, I had better results with just RO. It's a nice reset, nice flush back to neutral. Plus it buys you research time.

When you find yourself stressed out and thinking its all a big problem that has to be solved right now or it's the end of this run, chant the following:

Less is more.

Keep it simple stupid.

Its a weed, it knows how to grow.

Let it be.

Good luck!
