315 CMH heat management

Im interested in the Sunplix 315 CMH, but I'm concerned about heat. Anyone have any experience with heat management with one of these. I usually grow in a closet that's about 4' long by 2 1/2' deep by 8' tall, but thinking about using a 4.3' x 3' x 6 1/2' tent. These are expensive and I don't want to waste money because I can't manage the heat.

I have sunplix’s de 630 in my 8x8 I can keep it 77-80 just fine with just my extraction fan on. I would imagine you could do the same with the 315. They are nice lights and customer service is stellar sonnie is a nice guy to work with. @SunPlix CMH

The 315W gives off little heat. Ventilation fan can handle the heat easily.
This customer uses a 315W in his 3x3 tent for his 2 plants and got 22 oz. He uses ventilation fan only.

The only difference between 315w of led, 315w of cmh, or 315w of hid in terms of heat is efficiency.
in layman's terms if one light source is more efficient than the other that means more of the electricity gets used being turned into light and less into heat.
For that amount of space that difference would be nominal, given all other variations are the same. A simple extraction fan and filter you should be good to go.

Sorry for the dumb questions, but do you use one of those exhaust fans and just hang it on a tent rod and clamp a hose on the outlet and run it through one of the tent openings? So basically just one exhaust hose?

You can. I’m not sure how strong tents are as i built all my rooms. But I’d guess they build them to be hung from.

Don't overlook air extraction / circulation. It's super important. As far as the fan goes it depends on your priorities. You can get a cheap Duct Fan and run that and it would probably work but would be noisy and you wouldn't be able to attach any kind of substantial filter.
On the other hand you can get a nice fan that's quiet, controllable and can handle a filter but they're more expensive.
I actually have a Panasonic whisperline that I'm trying to get rid of. I almost put it on eBay but can't get the some of the small leaf matter out and being the discreet guy I am decided that was no bueno lol

The photos come from another customer. The tent is 4x4, 4 plants, the light is 400W. Day 59. He uses only a tower fan. See how he installs the fan.IMG_2540.JPG IMG_2555.JPG IMG_2557.JPG IMG_2579.JPG IMG_2576.JPG IMG_2560.JPG

I use a cmh 315w in a tent and am getting better coverage with a lot less heat than the 3 led lights it replaced. I do put 2 led's in around week 7 for the extra UV. Really like the results I get with them, and as stated with a good extraction fan, heat is easily managed.

Brilliant. Any pics of how set up an extraction fan in a tent?
This is how I do it with a closed hood fixture. Light is a 600 watt HPS. For the open fixtures just vent straight out. Filter - fan - exaust out. I exhaust from the top and use passive air for the intake. Bottom vents on the tent are open and I filter the incoming air with FPR 10 filter material "important unless you want dust and other crap getting inside. Fan is a 400 CFM and I use a controller to run it about half speed. Tent is in a garage and I vent into the attic in the summer and just back out into the garage in the winter. Temps in the tent stay just a few degrees above the outside temp. I have just a clip on fan blowing between the light and the top of the canopy.

And yes most tents are strong enough to hang a fan, filter, and light.

What size is the fan? And price?

Good info on heat removal here, may i add not to place thermometer in the light, thats radiation not air temps your reading.

A point thats hopefully better understood by the site, most lights give out very little heat in reality :-)

Yeah, that's right, ,,, as I slowly move my thermometer away from the light.
