3 Gallon too small or just fine?

I'm thinking of getting 2- 3 Gallon smart pots and planting a Skywalker OG and Critical + side by side 1 month veg 2 month flower from seed to finish in those same pots. Do you think I'll run into space issues or will I be fine?

If I'm fine the other question comes up with how can I keep my plant under 5 feet? My tent is kind of small.

you will be good , only a month veg so a foot tall or so no prob. so you know smart pots are the shit, you can veg a plant 4 feet tall in it and flower it finish height of 7 feet tall ! 3 gallon pot. but don't expect more then 4 ounces,

You'll be able to veg. up to 24"- 30" with the critical +
I've grown it lots, in 3 gallon Grow Bags. I veg up to 30"-36" end up with a 5' -5 1/2' plant Finish.
If your only gonna veg. for one month your plants will be short, you won't have to worry about height issues.

IMO- I'd transplant a few weeks before flower. You'll be giving your plant new medium to grow in.

Thanks for hte info guys I figured I wasted a ton of soil my last grow. I didnt bother to check the cuts just cut the base and threw out the pot but used 5 gals on a auto moby dick it was WAY bigger than the plant they showed on the site I bought the seeds from small in height but very branchy and dense.

I think I may go with with

Critical + & Critical Kush

or

Critical Kush & Skywalker OG

or

Auto White Widow & Auto Jack Herer

not really sure, want something dense and under 5ft.

Is there a con besides yield to doing 12/12 from seed?

I had one plant mature in 3 gallon pot, however it was bagseed strain and seemed to be shorter n bushy by genetics so don't know why, but it is still pretty small and in flowering compared to other bagseed in a tupperware of like 5 gallons.

I like the smart pots, I might personally choose to go up in size from 3 gallon, but given people can pull nice size plants and I've only matured one through veg, I will probably wait to decide after blue venom in 3 gal smart pot gets some height in veg.

I use 1 to 2 gallon pots (it really depends on space at the time, sometimes I use a 40 oz pop bottle if I am running out of room) for everything (vegged for a bit over a month with some pretty radical training), never get anything less than 2 z a plant.. and pretty well average about 2 z a plant 24x24 inch space.

have you ever tried coco coir? if not id try some in 2 or 3 gallon smart pots cant go wrong either way once pot is filled up with roots you should water every 1 to 2 days with nutes and give em plain water once a week I had a 16 inch tall plant in a 22 ounce solo cup in coco when I cut cup open the root mass was amazing nothing but white healthy roots to me it seems like roots fill out better in coco than soil

Picture 201.jpgPicture 200.jpgPicture 154.jpgPicture 153.jpgskywalker og in happy frog & 3 gal smart pots that i usualy use for coco if youre not carefull skywalker can easily stretch to 50+ in. i vegged under t-5s & went to 12/12 the minute they hit my room

ive got a timewreck in a 3 gallon smartpot around day 25 flower that had a 60 day veg and its showing no signs of being inhibited because of the pot, and is supporting growth on 16+ tops.So in short 3 gallons smart pot in my experience is fine

I like the discussion and here I thought I was gonna kill my plants.

I've been using roots orangic low EC coco coir for 2 years now, I find it easier to use than FFOF, but OF does seem to grow a little better, might have more micronutrients for veg.

Gonna go with 2 3-Gal Pots, gonna most likely go with Critical Kush & Skywalker OG gonna try and train the OG never done that before.

Sounds good I already got the seeds might start a journal

So Critical Kush and Jack Herer it is I'll save the Skywalker for the next grow so I can just veg and clone a bunch of sites off her

I've been using 3 gallon grow bags for years and get great results. At one point, i was getting 6-8 zips per plant - when i had things dialed in at my last spot.

I personally would use at least 3 gallon pots. To keep the short train them with gardening wire if needed. I've managed to keep this one under 2 feet tall. This also can help those lower branch buds get much better light.IMG_1675.JPG
