3 315 CMH or 3 630 CMH for a 4x8

Is doubling up the wattage with the 630's worth it in a 4x8 or will the 315's get the job done? Does anyone have any recommendations on any of the brands offered on amazon?

What are you looking to accomplish? How much height in your 4x8 space? Do you have any light gear at all right now or starting from scratch? Budget? How many plants? What style of grow? Etc, etc, etc

Have you seen the new 600w ceramic HPS from Hortilux? I am waiting for the bulb as I ahve ballasts and hoiods but the "kits" have been released already...................we need more info to help you out :peace:

Sorry about not providing enough info...
4x8 Gorilla Tent with 2 ft extensions if necessary
No lights right now
Planning on going with 8 - 10 plants in soil with LST and a SCROG to fill out canopy
Trying to find a good balance of high quantity and quality. Pulling 3 elbows of high quality is my ideal goal but I understand it may take a few runs to get it down.
Budget isnt too limited but I dont really want to too crazy for first indoor run
I dont really want to go HPS as the CMH has a better spectrum and is more efficient for a pretty similar price. While LED's are most efficient the price difference to me isnt worth it.

I'm running 12- 59 watt cobs in my 4x8 right now. Was previously running 600w HID in there at this spot, 1K in my last spot in my 5x10 gorilla with the extension. Im not trying to heckle you just help.

Ok what is your environment like where the grow will be? Like for example my last spot very hot all year round even with a protable A/C pain in the rear. This spot cooler environment and temps stable all year. If you run CMH or HID can you vent out a window or the room or will the air be circulating and the filters killing the smell and that's it?

Also is wattage an issue as for cost on a monthly basis?

And FYI the light I was recommending is an HID, but it's "ceramic" HPS, suppose to be a 315 on roids.......I am waiting for the bulbe themselves to come out to buy one been waiting over a year for it's release. One of those over each half would kill it in there.

If not no biggy, just what I would do and may still. I am happy with the COB's because they fit the bill on what I can do currently without maxing out my available watts.

I can point you to solid 315 kits, if you have the height and want to run the extensions I would then do the 630's. There's also a slick Air Cooled 315 setup you could do..........

Ask away man again just trying to help

@genuity can speak better on the 630's and I know he favors them maybe he can shed some more info.

I'm not a pro grower or anything man, just currently have a space that size and I have run a few different lights in the past couple years ask around LOL

Here's a link for you:

The environment is easily controlled. Its a large add on room on my house that has its own ac/heater unit separate from the rest of the house. Ambient temp is going to be perfect to pull in the tent to control any heat. The tent will be vented up into the attic and cooler ambient room temp will be pulled in to cycle the air.

Wattage isnt necessarily an issue but it is something I would like to keep low if possible.

If you can recommend any of the brands on amazon that would be very much appreciated

I was looking into cobs for a while but I cant justify the high cost for the pre built and I dont feel comfortable building my own.

Is there a specific reason it has to be Amazon?

So if it was me I would do one of four things if we are not talking COB's.........and I had the ability to vent and control environment easily if need be.....and had the two foot Extension

1) (2) 1000K HID Blue MH for veg and HPS for flower
2) (3) 630 DE CMH
3) 8- 315 CMH Air Cooled and vented
4) (3) 600 Watt Ceramic HPS with the Blue MH for Veg..................

Which rabbit hole do you want me to take you down..........?

FYI have you seen these COB's, can't recommend them enough.........

Well im getting the majority of my stuff through amazon and prime shipping is so nice. They have many cmh setups with 2 day shipping.

Lets choose door number 2 and 3. Would the only difference between the 2 be distribution?

Yes correct and I would show you how to Air Cool the 315's in hoods which will let you get closer than normal to the SCROG................would just need to see if Amazon has it all...........when you're ready I will get you some links to where I know the parts are and you can pay with amazon if you're using a gift card or something......

I think the 630's would be the easier option. Seems like the 8 lights would be a lot more expensive than the 3 630's and if you cant daisy chain them all together it would be a nightmare plugging everything in. I was looking at 3 of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071GDSVZY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=A1KBVFFLR1WEMK&psc=1.

The light you linked is a low end fixture with good bulbs but is not a true 630, they're just running (2) Phillips 315 Bulbs in there I would not recommend that especially not just open in that fixture.

This is the 630 CMH I would be looking at........it's a true 630 DE bulb.........only one on the market to my knowledge someone correct me if I'm wrong it's been a minute since I was looking at these...........

This is what you want: the 630 that is DE not (2) 315's.......

Or these Gavita's are well underestimated but you have the height and can vent the room so who cares, but this is DE and NOT CMH........

2 SunPlix 630W DE CMH grow lights are enough for a 4x8 tent.
These are pictures from our customer who uses 1 SunPlix 400W knob dimming CMH grow light in his 4x4 tent. He doesn't use an AC, just a tower fan.IMG_2540.JPG IMG_2555.JPG IMG_2557.JPG IMG_2560.JPG CMH-315KF-2.jpg

Feel the burn baby :fire:
No Customer reposts of mega hot spots with the mirror polished reflector directly beaming 1000W DE photons?

@csovfnst have you considered 5 or 6 315's?

X........X.........X...............X..........X.........X

......X........X.....................X..........X.........X

it is my understanding that the dual arc tube 630 is kinda Janky and you really want a true Philips or Hortilux 315 lamp on a real Philips Ballast for proper lamp life.
