2x4 GorillaGrow 425watt LED Ventilation Noise Reduction

So I've been growing in a gorilla grow tent that is 2ft x 4ft x 6'11 ft and I run one LED light that is putting out 425 true watts. I was using in the past a handy me down 6in inline and carbon filter that had defiantly seen better days and been used heavily... I grew in house and noise was never issue with it humming allday in backroom, I have now recently moved into downtown apartment and have neighbors all around me, if I turn that ole' inline on now i'll have all the neighbors knocking on my door for sure, I still want to grow and now have a few grows under my belt and don't mind upgrading my fan and filter... I want to build a new setup so quiet a baby can sleep in their and I can hear my oscillating fan over it. I need one my neighbors will never ever ever ever ever hear....

There's so many new fan set ups I've thought of and I just can't figure out which way to go what to buy so I wanted to see or hear from you guys if you've had any experience with quiet ass inline fans insulating ducts the whole nine yards etc

I've looked at Panasonic whisperline 240 CFM but heard they get louder as they age so kinda threw that to side immediately...

Then looked at vortex vtx600 and the eficent 6 inch and have been seriously leaning towards getting a vtx600

Then I looked at mufflers and silencers and I can't tell if they really are gonna work or not on this vtx600 or if I need to go the route of speed controllers to try and get this fan purring like a cat... Or if I am suppose to do both...

Does name brands really matter with silencers and carbon filters? Phresh?

I'm just lost and this whole 6inch fan for such a baby grow is so overkill I've always thought anyways too idk if it's better for me to downgrade to a 4 inch or not but I heard bigger fans at half speed are less loud then 4s...

Just Lookn For Advice Before I Start Breaking The Bank Experimenting Again, Thanks...

If you think your 6" is overkill (and too noisy) at least consider adding a variable speed motor control to slow it down (and quiet it down) and build a small insulated MDF box to put it in. I also see guys here hanging their boxes with bungee to absorb the vibrations.

Hey orbo thanks for the response, I actually am hanging it with bungie cords right now and I've lokked into building a box to enclose it in but at end of day I'm a stoner and I've always been paranoid with fires going that route, I'm literally gonna just throw this filter and inline. On the trash, I'm more so just trying to find out from someone if they think a vtx600 with a filter and phresh silencer is enough to make it very quiet or if It's better to go the route of speed controller, and then I can't rele tell if name brand filters and silencers are worth the extra money is there any real differences in them, I'm just lookin for verification from someone who uses these products or has knowledge about them, before I just start buying new toys to play with and yes the 6 inch is defaintly overkill on this tent I produce no heat due to the led...

Yes, brand name quality makes a difference, especially in the fan & filter department. I use vtx fans & phresh filters. I've also used VenTech filters and fans too. The difference in quality is apparent. The vtx line are industrial fans, even with a rheostat they will make some noise & vibration. I think all fans do. Get a rheostat type controller, not one of those $20 specials. Use insulated ducting. I had a lot more stuff but it disappeared, at least that will get you started.
Welcome to RIU!

Thanks yah, from reviews and shit I heard it's basically you get what you paided for I just want to be as quiet as possible for this grow cuz I've never done one in a apartment before gotta keep it lower key than normal this time,

I've basically come to conclusion I'm gonna buy the VTX600 or the Elicent 6 im gonna see if the hydro store will let me turn them on at the store and compare noise levels

I'm also thinking I'm rele gonna buy a silencer by phresh, I've never been around a grow op with one so I don't know how well they truly work but for a hundred dollars if it helps me sleep at night Fukk it why not...

And I also have heard problems with the 20 dollar speed controllers too, I heard they are cutting power to the fan the wrong way and are hurting ur fans lifespan more than anything...

had used the VTX600 for years when i used to grow & its a real powerhouse with very negligible noise 10 year warranty & if i ever grew again that would be the only thing I would use.At 100% speed u couldnt hear it & the grow was beside my bedroom & u couldnt hear it with the tv on at a medium volume:peace:

This is good news to hear about the VTX600 cuz that's the one I'm really leaning towards right now, I'm thinking I'm gonna rock the VTX600 with a phresh 6inch silencer and I haven't sat my sights on any particular filter yet I've just heard budget filters don't do justice on big ops but maybe I can get by with one since my room is only 2x4 and since I'm gonna buy the phresh silencer for the vtx600 I'm debating on if I even need to go the route of insulated ducting I have been told insulated ducting will stop some of the swooshing noise coming from my exhaust duct but Too me it's kinda overkill I'm just praying this vtx with a silencer will get me to the audible level I'm tryn to reach.... Sounds like it's about time to head to the hydro store....

I don't know anything about silencers per se, I've experimented with various ideas though. It's one of the few items I'd diy if I needed one. Insulated ducting is worth it, imo, but it's your call. I started out with the non but ended up replacing it all with insulated.
You'll like the vtx series, I pair mine with Variac speed controllers. You can do it right the first time, or do it two or three times first, like I did.
Good luck, I don't know how you guys in apts/condos/dorms/duplexes do it, but I tip my hat to you!

Hey Durty!! I just reread everything and realized you already have the notion of speed controller so my comment added zero value - sorry about that. On a side note, after reading this and looking around a bit I discovered this little gem -
http://www.hydrogalaxy.com/timers-l...4dtAgJ6ZwTexQIp6ypNVi3rJDxn7XJq6FMaAn6x8P8HAQ
- which is something I've wanted for YEARS. I realize those high end controllers can do this but they are WAY overkill for this simplistic concept. This fan controller (sold as fan controller but could work for a variety of thing) has a daytime AND nighttime temp setting with a photo eye to determine day or night. It says it controls fan speed too but I don't see how. I build this exact same unit but it took like 4 electrical boxes and is a big as a shoebox!!! LOL

Anyway, I wanted to drop by and say THANKS for incentivizing me to look for this. Best of luck to you and your grow.

where is ur exhuast venting to,I agree u could easily diy a silencer if u felt it was needed.Insulated duct is 2 fold noise reduction & prevents alot of heat being radiated from the ducting as it exhausts ur light.depending how u exhaust a charcoal filter will be needed.I never had to use any of these goodies as smell & noise want an issue:peace:

So I Called Up One Of My Buddy And Ended Up Snagging A VTX600 For The Low, I Brought It Home, Fired It Up And That Shit Was Like A Jet Engine Went Off, Its A Super Nice Fan Well Built Strong As Fuck, But High As Fuck decibel wise, I Was Shocked, Now I Didn't Throw A Filter On It Or Silencer But Basically It Was So Loud Theres No Way In Hell Im Even Gonna Keep Bothering With It, Stash It For Future, So I Went Back To The Drawing Board And I Don't Know How I Had Never Seen Or Heard Of The Phresh Hyperfan 6" Before, It Was Built With A Speed Controller And Running At 35% Its Running Round 55-60 db Nothing Attached Im Betting If I Threw A Silencer & Insulated Ducting On It I Could Get That Down To Where Im Golden. Also I Was Thinking About Ducting And I Was Wondering If I Went With A Bigger Duct And Bigger Filter With Drop Downs To The Fan If The Extra Space And Volume Would Make It Quieter Too… And Ive Talked To A Bunch Of People In The Last Couple Days About Silencers And Everyones Saying You Can Make Two For The Price Of One Its A DIY Project, And PathOfLight It Vents Out A Window On To Patio...

checked that fan out after u posted & it looks like a very nice fan with the built in speed controller. Btw is this fan for room exhaust or air-hood exhaust?Sorry the VTX didnt work for u,when i was using mine i cad a CAP speed conrtoller & paid like $30 & it worked great, but u had to find the sweet spot as alot of fans will vibrate when lowering power, so i ended up running 100% power.I sure miss growing MJ,every aspect of indoor gardening has come along way since I did it.Good luck with ur grow & may Mother Earth bless u with fat & sticky medicine.

Yeah, the vtx line is industrial, no doubt about it. Mine's really pretty quiet after I tweaked it a bit. Phresh makes good stuff, how hard is it to attach ducting? Glad you found something that worked for you, that's the main thing.
@orbo had a nice find there as well.

Keep it green!
