250w or 400w, what is best for a 2x2 tent?

I have 4 85watt cfl bulbs running now, but I think a HID light would up my yields. What do you think?

a 250 would be better than cfls imo no doubt. and i think it would work great in your 2x2 tent although a 400 would be super but i think it would cause some major heat issues in such a small space. unless you have ample extraction to deal with the heat.the 250w will heat it up too so spend a litlle on some extraction and some oscilating fans.

I am leaning towards the 400 watt systems. I like the idea of having so much light. My setup has good ventilation. Is 400 watts really too much for a 2x2 tent?

To utilize a 400W HID in a 2'x2' tent properly and efficiently your going to NEED some kind of air cooled hood or cool tube with ducting and at least a 4" inline fan. A 250W HID on the other hand could be used in an open reflector with just a fan blowing on it, however you will need to vent some of that heat out of the tent with some kind of fan like a computer fan, ideally you will have an intake down low and exhaust up top. This is just recommendations based on research Ive done and people Ive talked to as I'm no experienced grower, yet.

Dude, you need to check out the grow journal by "supchaka", 2x2 tent and only running 150W HPS.....it's a 12/12 perpetual grow and it's fucking amazing....I'm following his lead and you should think about doing the same....12/12 perpetual saves energy and the 150W is easy to use inside a 2x2.....seriously, check out his stuff....his grow journal is titled "[h=1]12/12 From Seed 150 Watt HPS Perpetual[/h]

All the recommendations are good. The 400 would be great but a air cooled reflector is needed.. A 250 is the next best choice which a a/c reflector is not needed but u sstill need ventilation and the 150 would be a good choice but still need to vent it out. Me if I was on a budget I would get a 150 from htg supply for 68.99 and use the cfls withit from veg thru flower you will live the results plus you will have as much wattage as the 400 but spectrum would be spread out;)
