I have always grown over 24hrs and a new friend is against it , is it better to let the lafdies sleep for a few hrs ?

I think it is better to let them sleep, plants can only use so much light the rest is wasted.
Light bleaching is also a chance.
I keep mine on 18/6

some people think that. I believe it has been proven that roots grow more in dark periods and anything over 20hrs is not beneficial but doesn't hurt either. the way I see it if there is top growth their is root growth too so whatever I run 24/0 just because it is one less timer and I veg with cfls so it's not like power consumption really matters to me

no chance in light bleaching. light bleaching is from intensity of light not length of lights on

thanks for the info and I might set them to 22hrs and veg a few more weeks then off to the budding!!!

keep the opinions coming !!

I do seedlings from 0 to 2 weeks, maybe 3, under a 4' t-12 for 24/0. Then they go to a much more intense floro rack, for 18/6 till mature, then they flower under a 400w HPS, obv 12/12.

I notice my vegg plants start looking they are going to sleep a couple of hours before the light goes off on 18/6 . an hour with the light on and they are praying to the stars until about mid cycle.

Ideally this is what I would do. not so much anymore but thats just because im lazy

I had decent growth with 24/0
then I introduced some auto strains and saw my growth slow...

I finally settled on 20/4 and all my ladies are growing with vigor!

i dont its not natural the sun isnt around 24 hrs a day. but thats just my opinion

18/6 is optimal if you use non-fem seeds for producing females. I never go 24/7, have great luck, big root structures(most always root bound at harvest).

the sun is around 24/7 heck it's around 36/8 but only the poles know about that business... Just an opinion. I do think that taking care of your plants above and below the soil is beneficial bigger roots bigger buds.. And hey need time in the dark to grow those roots.

I heard that the Ph varies a little in the light/dark cycles, so I decided to veg under 17/7. Seems like the use of nutrients in the soil would be more effective, and more even. I still do 24/0 for seedlings though.

I've noticed damn bigger leaf when they sleep. It can be great to allow 24/24 light when temp is sooo low during winter (where i live the temperature drops to approximately -30 celsius) they keep constant temp and the house too.

it's clearly better and more natural to allow them 4 or 5 hours of sleeping.

ya i think a 20/4 is closer to perfect than 24/0.

I think i've read that most plants arent even taking in light for a few hours a day.

even if you have them on for 24.

not sure if that's true but it would make sense. so i save energy for 4 hours a day during veg. still get great results.

cannabis is a type C plant...no need of as dark period until initiating flower...more growth 24/0....roots as stems and leaves grow constantly

Agreed with Kite.
Cannabis does not need a dark period. It only saves on electricity.
Oh and the "extra growth" yu get from dark periods is called stretch. LoL. They wonderin where the light went.

Sir KK

Ps. If you wanna replicate the sun more, your lights would brighten then dim, but never turn off (moonlight).
