24/hour light in veg is it good or should I 18/6?

looking for info from a educated experienced grower I got 3 babies sprouting and I am planning on vegging at 24/0 will this make it grow quicker so i can switch to 12/12 flowering mode around 3 weeks in?
Will 24hour light in vegging increase my chances of growing males??

When mine are sprouting I leave it on 24/0 when they have there first set of true leaves they go 18/6

i use 24/0. it is widely debated which is better, ive done both many times under both hps and cfls and 24/0 does seem to grow somewhat faster, but really the main difference imo is w/24/0 you end up with shorter bushier plants and with 18/6 you get taller more stretched plants. in the summer i have no choice but to use 18/6 b/c of temps i have to shut the lighting down for the 6 hottest hours of the day. 18/6 is also supposed to save electricity(which it does, of course) but the amount is negligble imo unless your running thousands of watts, having my 900w of lights off for 6 hrs a day only saves me 5-10 dollars a month. I think the faster growth is worth the $. So really the question of 18/6 or 24/0 depends on your situation and what you want and need to do. Cannabis is a c3 plant and therefor always absorbs c02 and does all needed funtions regardless of light cycle. I've never noticed faster root growth when 18/6 compared to 24/0. some people try to say 18/6 makes roots grow faster, but ive never seen any real difference except the 24/0 get faster bigger so they need bigger root systems so need to be transplanted sooner than 18/6 plants would.

i also have a baby plants that are three weeks old and have had them on 24/7 lighting dont know if that could be bad or not can someone plez help...

I run 24/7 during veg and have never had a plant go male because of it. If you can afford to do so, I'd recommend 24/7. Darkdestruction420 is right, the plants will stack better under 24/7 than 18/6. This I speak from experience, not just something I read. With indoor growing I prefer my plants to be compact like this because it increases bud sites per sq/ft which ultimately seems to yield more. Then again, I grow almost 100% plants that are primarily indicas. So I'd be interested to hear from some of the Sativa guys if they see the same results. Anyone??

I decided to go 24 for my grows. From what I see compared to my friends' plants (they all go 18/6) mine is shorter but more tops and nodes aren't as spaced out. I'm also growing a super lemon haze which is very sativa... It had me wondering because the light was so close and on 24 hours if it was really SLH because the way it was bushing out it seemed like it was a straight indica. The leaves are getting skinny though so it's making sense because of the light schedule. Good thread.

I go 24 because it works and is the most simple for my situation. No hassle and fool proof.. nothing is easier than 24/7

i do 24 on veg but only for the simple fact that i dont want to go through all of the time making a veg area light tight. i use t5 for veg.

I use 24/ as well. I'm lazy and don't feel like hooking up my timer. The only other thing I do is I put her in 36 hrs of darkness before I flip.

I think it all depends on preference. I use 24 just bc its easier.

I notice that when i go sraight from 24/0 to 12/12 i get more stretch in my plants... when i go from 18/6 to 12/12 seems to give me less stretch, might just be the strain though...

ok there are some truths in here but scientifically they will not grow faster! a plant needs the dark period to complete photosynthisis...without the dark period u are restricting the tree from using the energy it gained during the lights on period. its not a bad thing but this is the reason as to why the plant doesnt get much verticle growth. aslo its not true that the plant will 'stretch' more in 18/6 its not 'stretching' its growing! i have tried 24hr periods due to lazyness and not having a timer and imo it takes longer to vege a plant!....the longer the dark period the more the tree will grow vertically. hence the reason as to y they double or triple in height wen u flip it over to flowerin. but think about it a plant does most of its growin wen its dark, and with out the dark period u dnt get the even growth u get really short really stocky trees that somtimes arent ideal. but to each his own!....but truthfully its basic botany, to my an oppinion is an oppinion and will never b a fact. u should look into facts becuase they are proven! oppinions are somtimes not validated and in most cases far off from the truth, its up to us to weed thru the information that is correct.
and no i am not attacking ppls oppinions as some on this thread did infact post some truths.

The plant's photosynthetic rate determines its growth rate because the sugars are used by the plant to build tissue and for energy. Cannabis under continuous light will grow 33% faster than the same plants on an 18-6 light regime.

That is some really strange shit because i swear by the 18/6 after the first true set of leaves, i've even did a side by side run of the same plant strain to see just what the difference would be..And as you may have figured by my responce i dont agree with him here the one that was given darkness were by far the larger of the two with beautiful healthy leaves to boot i ran them for 4 weeks and the one that was ran on 24/0 i continued to veg because i did not like the growth height width etc..i've done 12/12 18/6 16/8 and even 20/4 and over all i go with the 18/6...

Can I leave the lights on all the time?

Cannabis plants grow without hassle under twenty-four hours of continuous light. There has been no controlled recordings of increased hermaphrodites or other problems, so most growers now use the full 24/0 cycle. 18/6 does have an advantage in that it allows the equipment and room to cool down. Those six hours of darkness can be timed to happen during the hottest part of the day, providing some relief for growers in hot climates.

Males & ruderalis strains from the far north are not photosensitive at all. Both age & development play a role in determining when these plants flower. Ruderalis develops flowers under continuous light within a few weeks of germination. Males of most varieties indicate under continua light within three to nine months. Some equatorial sativa males are exceptions and require a dark period to flower. Under 18 hours of light, males indicate sooner than under continuous light.

Plants grown from seed under an 18/6 day/night photoperiod will usually show pronounced pre-flowers before plants given a 24/0 day/night photoperiod. And, under a 16/8 day/night regimen pre-flowers show more quickly and are often more pronounced. Once pre-flowers are distinguishable as male or female, plants can be induced to flower with a 12/12 day/night photoperiod.

my point is that the plant will still b healthy and still grow under 24hr...but, it will not b at its best! i justy dont understand how ppl are getting faster more vigerous growth...those of us that have done numerous times will kno for sure that 18/6 has better faster results than 24hr...but, there are some strains such as autoflower strains that will grow just as quick but 9 times outa 10 18/6!

Listen up Krazey47409 ~ You have received a lot of good information from responses to your questions. Where did all these knowledgeable people come from, where are they when I need them ? Some of the information I already knew, but I also learned a thing or two or three. Not my post, but thanks to all

Like rasta said anything thats green needs a cool down period a grow period.. where the plant can direct its energy towards Repairs-Faster root, Stem, leaf growth..18/6

I've got 12 little sprouts going, and honestly, so far, I see the most growth when I check them in the mornings. I've been doing 18/6, with the lights set to come on just before I wake up, and while I am noticing a lot of growth during the day, the biggest changes seem to be happening with the lights off, so I think the 18/6 is doing just fine for me, as a first-time grower.
