24/0 OR 18/6 hours of light

24/0 will outgrow 18/6. Most strains that is. It is a bitof a myth that a plant only grows roots during the dark. Think of it this way. They grow some really big ass veggies and pot plants outdoors in Alaska. The summer is very, very short, but around the clock light. Most grower op for 20/4 or 18/6 over 24/0 for the money savings. And some because the strains they are growing require such. If you have the cash, 20/4 or 24/0 by all means.

Ever heard of the north pole and south pole? Alaska, home of the midnight sun. Plants, most mj plants that is. Do not require a rest period. Granted it may not be bright sunlight. But light enough none the less to carry out photosynthesis.

If someone studies botany they will learn that plants do need periods of darkness in each 24-hour period to perform all their functions fully. That is a proven fact. Plants produce a flowering hormone and in some plants it will be destroyed by even just a few minutes of daylight longer than what would give them a period of darkness that is long enough. When that happens, they will not flower because the needed hormones were destroyed and will keep being destroyed when made unless the length of the period of darkness is increased.
The thing is just how much darkness does any type of plant need and then in cannabis how much darkness does any specific strain need? No one seems to have a precise answer to that question.
Cannabis, for all the headaches it can cause, is really an easy plant to grow, it is very vigorous and it can and will survive in conditions other plants would not survive in. Because of that over time so many 'home experiments' have been done and plants did not die and at times for various reasons some 'home experiments' seemed to have been successes so they were told and then others emulated them. Most times they were nothing more than beliefs.

I agree Brick. Mj is an annual. And like all annuals, pretty tough. And yes a plant does need a dark period to produce its flowering hormones. But I have yet to have one not flower starting it at 24/0. Sometimes I go straight to 12/12. But most of the time every 10 days or so. Decreasing the light period 2 hrs at a shot. Till reaching 12/12 Its about finding a balance with nature within your indoor garden. And there are some strains like Barneys Red Deisel. Better not fool with mother nature. Or it Hermi Time! lol
Doesn't mean a thing to me. My uncle who has been working on BB chevys, drag raced in the NHRA, and currently works for international diesel told me that my head gasket only had 4 bolts holding it down. Uhh, bullshit. It had 8, and no car i've ever seen has 4 head gasket bolts.
Unless you can prove that the startup voltage spike uses more electricity than the 4 hours of light it's all myth.
They used to say turning on and off your computer wasted more electricity than leaving it on. Bullshit. There's plenty of evidence that turning a computer off when it's not being used does save energy, but it's more of a convenience issue on whether or not you want to turn it off or not.

24/0 is overkill if you ask me. 20/4 or 18/6 is the way to go. If you want to keep stretching down 24/0 is a good way to do it, but I dont believe its the best way to prevent stretching ( using a good light at the right distance)
