Will my 20w LED flood light sustain a bonzai mother?

I am a rather experienced grower but never did much in mother plants. I allways felt it took too much room and the costs were to high compared to just starting from seeds every time.

I still don't trust LED to replace my 600w hps BUT!

They may make it possible for me to keep a little mother plant that could produce 15-20 clones every three months or so (maybe with the addition of light 14 dayz bfore i need them)

Heres the experiment: From clone i will use a 9w Blue spectrum LED light (state of the art, 3w diodes) till it starts rooting and picks up growth.

Then i will switch to a LED 20w (120w equivalent - 1400lumen 6400k) flood light under wich i hope it can spend the remainder of its life producing clones when i need them (probably with the addition of another 20w flood light a good while bfore i need them)

Now if thats possible, wich i believe it to be, the costs of running a motherplant just went down a GREAT deal! This IS just one plant though!

I will keep u updated! :)

Wait so is the 20w an LED light? just go buy a Cree LED bulb or two from Lowes. Same as CFL but less power draw.

Ye it's actually something similar to what you'r saying i have.
These bulbs i have use up 20w and put out 1400lumen and with a color temp of 6400k On a regular E27 socket. It should do just nicely.
but i tried it outside in the dark it is brighter than my 160w halogen work lamp in the garage! I think it'll do JUUST ok ;)

The reason for this post is like i said how little power/effort is actually needed in keeping a motherplant using LED. IF it works that is haha :-D but the amount of light! I can feel the sting from the lightrays on the back of my hand 15 cm from the light it has to work! :)

I am SO looking forward to LED tech to be trustworthy enough to surpass the output of HPS... One day! But today, to much bogus crap on the market.

Not really dude, just checkout the LED forum on here. Plenty of 1gpw+ grows on here and the LED WILL work. LED has actually been good enough for vegging for a couple of years, it's just Flower was always lacking.

Also , people only use stronger lights in Veg becuase they want to it to be faster. Those people probably want your 20-30 cuttings every 2 weeks!

I use about 3200 lumens over 1.5 sq feet, about 4 CFLs/LED bulbs <20w actual. It is good enough for cloning/bonsai/solo cup veg. I would suggest adding a 2700k bulb to even out the spectrum but yeah, have fun!

Thx man i apreciate the info!
For now i will try just this see how far it gets me :) i will get another bulb if needed but usually i understand that vege spectrum should be a cool white? (4000-6500k)?

About the leds for actually growing, ye you are right i believe LED is getting REALLY close i've been watching it closely. I also have a few friends that get good results.

For me though, i'm not ready to take the step. Perhaps in a year or two ;)

Actually i've gotten 1g/w two times during my ten year of growing hah
