2020 MASSACHUSETTS outdoor grow Thread!

Since I enjoyed last years outdoor grow Thread, following my fellow massholes, I decided to start this years. Last year was my first real outdoor grow and I enjoyed it more than I ever did 10 years of indoor. I had a great harvest and will have enough to supply me thru next harvest season.

I decided the best way to spend my “quarantine” was to start prepping my garden. It’s about 6 weeksish till I want to plant my seeds, so today I cleaned out old litter and debis that gathered over the winter. I already picked up most of the supplies I’ll need to refresh the soil. Just waiting on a delivery of Organic compost to get here. I’ll need about a yard of it for my 10x10 bed. I figure I can mix it all up now and add it as a topsoil, cover it up and let it sit for 4-6 weeks. Worked great last year.

still haven’t decided on strains yet but I think I’m gonna try autos early spring this year and plant some reg photo plants in July. That’s when I planted last year and they got bigger than I needed anyway. Anybody with experience with autos around here outdoors?

So let’s hear what your plans are for this year! Great time to be stuck at home. Take extra care of your gardens! Hard work now will reward you later. Happy growing!

Here is a thread I started for coastal NE seed selection for the outdoor season. What strains have you been growing?

I am hopefully going to be receiving some clones from a grower in Maine that might be a legit cut of MOB !!

whats up guys, good to hear from you all... I have a lot of Mass Medical Strains going indoors now, I'll pull cuts from the best and run some outdoors... probably Putang, Drippy Eye, and Grape Pupil...Also have a really strong MOB mother going now and I could pull a shitload of cuts from it... if anyone wants to run it, or has trouble finding it just message me

I picked out 6 autos to run in early spring. There just whatever I had left from my last seed order lol. Anyone know of a good place to source local organic compost? I need a backup in case my usual local farm can’t do it. I’m in south east mass btw
I’m trying collins compost out of enfield CT, never used it before but they look legit and send it out for testing. Looks to be very similar to malibu compost for way less money since it’s local. Not really near you unfortunately.

You can try Groundscapes Express in Wrentham... they have incredible compost... they usually have different kinds of mixes, and their really into the science behind making compost, If you're into that kind of thing their compost yard is incredible .. I don't think they sell it in bags, but I used to have them drop off a 10 wheeler load every year before I got my bins up and running .. You could also look into Blueview Nursery in Norton, I've got loads of really good compost from them, but it was years ago ... You could try Little Tree Nursery in Attleboro (maybe seekonk) also.. I have no idea what they have for compost but I've always liked the owners and have bought a lot of trees/shrubs from them in the past

I'm running a few Mass Med strains myself for the first time, started about a month ago...Putang, star pupil, and panama pupil, but my real standouts are the Katsu dracarys and black lime bubba...They are growing fast and furious...The Dracarys has the biggest fan leaves I have ever seen! Probably will take some clones for outdoors here soon. I'm not in MA., but your neighbor!!

I have 20 seeds germinating now for my outdoor grow this year (10 King's Banner and 10 Blue Velvet x King's Banner) to make sure I have enough to choose the strongest ones to go outside. These were seeds from females that got pollinated from a female King's Banner that herm'd from stress, so I'm expecting some to herm on me, but I figured it's worth a shot to see what kind of viability those seeds I collected have.

I'm not sure where in SE MA you are, but Pembroke Landscape Supply sells organic compost. I haven't tried it yet but I've bought other stuff from them and their prices were always pretty good, IMO.

I grew some mass medical last year outdoor.. worst strain I've ever grown outdoors.. least mold resistance in any strain I've ever ran outdoor.. that's over 15 years of growing outdoors and trying 2-3 strains a year.

Granted, last September was the worst September I've ever seen, rained close to 20 times that month and it was overcast and humid if it wasn't raining. Every cola was lost, only thing salvageable was popcorn buds.

I've popped a bunch of MMS seeds over the past month or so... to be honest, none of them seem to have very much vigor so far.. I also popped some beans from Exotic, Envy, In-House, and Ace at about the same time.... all of them are outperforming MMS by a mile

The last 2 years have sucked for me outdoors, between the wet weather and I didn't care for them nearly enough...and i wound up getting PM indoors last fall, probably from bringing my scraggly outdoor crap inside to trim / cure...I'll never make that mistake again!
