2018 Canadian outdoor strains of choice.

Hey guys. I know this thread is stale, but talk about leaving you hanging. How did everything go @gwheels, @Danielson999 - especially with your Juicy Fruit? I didn't have a proper outdoor season, but grew out a couple Texada Northern Lights from Peak. I found an extremely sativa dominant male that is a real grower and clones really easily, but the females I grew didn't really produce anything all that nice. Maybe just not the right pheno. After lurking on this thread I went ahead and ordered some BC Seed King seeds and so far have been impressed. I have one Juicy Fruit in particular that is really vigorous and seems to handle cold quite well. I am just flowering a cut of it in the cold garage to see how well it does. I am dying to know how Danielson999 did with his, so I hope he replies.

Perhaps we could start a similar thread for 2019? Growing outdoors in most of Canada is a challenge, especially with photoperiod plants, so I know that I would interested in it.

They were a tough mound resistant plant that weathered every storm and produced some really tasty weed
White rhino was not a great outdoor strain in my climate. I might run a jack herer with my malawiXpanama and Kwazulu. Mold resistant is my favorite outdoor strain :D

Those plants and buds look fantastic! Who's seed version of Jack Herer was it from, and what is your latitude?

That Jack Herer looks way immature, sure its probably going to be good but the long flowering time of that strain is not the best choice imo.

2 strains that did very well in the wet 2018 fall were Barneys peyote critical and lsd. Both were mold resistant and big producers. peyote was a 6' shrub and lsd was 13' tree

I’m a bit late on this thread but I just received a few different strains that I’m going to try in the fast summer of the prairies.

Manitoba Poison -Great white north seeds
Guerilla Gold #5 - boggy bottom seeds
South African Sativa - fast outdoor genetics
White Grizzly - kootenay mountain
Mighty might x donkey dick - west coast seeds

I’ve never tried any of these seed companies before so I’m rolling the dice a bit on it. Last year I did Frisian dew by Dutch passion but finished a bit late.
How did that Manitoba Poison do? Been looking at that one.

So, it's getting to be that time of year to start thinking about what flavours we will all growing this summer. I'll be starting mine indoors around the end of march I guess so I need to order seeds one of these days.

Has anyone grown one of the Grizzly strains from Kootenay mountain seeds? They also have a texada timewarp I might be interested in.

I grew BC Big Bud, God Bud and OG Kush outdoor last summer. The BC Big Bud finished first, smelled the best and yielded the best. The Kush took so long I ended up losing some of it. I might consider growing the Big Bud again as one of my strains.

PeakseedsBC has the Berry strains and a few others but I haven't tried them yet.

What are some other strains people have in mind this year?
BUBBA KUSH (300 to 500 gm/plant) is mildew resistant until Oct 1. Also had good luck with HAZE EXTREME 200 to 400 gm/plant.

I just sampled some more of the Peak Seeds BC texada northern lights last night and was surprised as to how nice it was. The bag appeal is non existent, but it's really happy and pleasant smoke. Tastes like pine. Turns purple/black in the cold and was able to finish up when some others stopped growing because of the cold. I know I mentioned previously that it wasn't anything special, but I don't think I gave it proper dry and cure time before reporting out on it - sorry.

@Danielson999 , did your Juicy Fruit finish last year? I need to make some decisions on the cuts I'm putting out this year. I have a really vigorous JF, but I am nervous that she won't intitiate flowering early enough to finish at over 50°.

It finished but not how I would have liked it. We had a shitty summer, smoke filled sky and had some wind damage. I'm not happy with any strains I've grown outdoors yet to be honest although I did harvest the majority of it the past few years. I got more of my Big Bud harvested. I wouldn't grow juicy fruit again. I need something that is done late sept or early oct. No more dragging things into late oct/ early nov.

I was recomended these gorilla glue #4 by the fella working the till at the indoor farmer near my house, always excited to try different strains that I’ve never grown before , also going to be popping seeds I found in my jack herer last year, budget is low this year so unfortunately won’t be having as many strains as I would like (may still grab a pack of blue dream),but way she goes I guess. I’m happy to be starting on time this year last year was a late start also happy the holes won’t be as hard to dig this year because I’ll be reusing a couple of the same spots Will keep you posted with progress. Cheers guys and girls!
