FIRST OFF A CONGRATS IS IN ORDER! The homie hammerhead over at Cannazon won first place hybrid for Gorilla Glue #4!

Why is this important you ask! Well he's not a narcissistic wannabe rock star breeder "SWERVE CC" lol! This should give the small guy's out there hope, and show all things are possible in this game!

Note: I'm not endorsing High Times either.

Touche! Congrats to that cos it was surely some fire! No politics there for sure!

It's a shame you think that of the Blackwater OG we entered. Why couldn't it be that this Blackwater OG was good enough to break into the top three? Our only affiliation with Swerve and The Cali Connection is really from our grower who bought a 10-pack of Blackwater OG seeds a few years back and, of the three he cracked (which all ended up being female BTW), one ended up being this nice purple phenotype of the plant that he chose to move forward with. Eventually we just entered it into the LA cup representing Terrapin Nation (one of us had to talk The Grower into entering it in the first place!)

Yea it takes good genetics to start, but it also takes a good grower to bring out the best qualities of a plant and that was what he was able to do here. First time entry into the cup for us and our grower so we couldn't be more surprised or humbled by this.

And yea, some of us used to think this was rigged and all politics; then this happened to us. We're happy, the grower is stoked, and everyone had a great time at the cup. That's really all that matters to us.

I can't speak for the best product category however as I agree that cloud and g-pens are both overpriced and unreliable.

Hopefully you get the chance to toke on some of the Blackwater I've been smoking for three years, I love it. I hope you at least get the chance to see why.
Props to you guys. I've never heard a story like this.... mostly just hear stories of "How the hell did that win, I tried it and it sucked", or read the winners and think I could have told you the breeders before hand.

This gives me a little hope to be honest.

I totally believe you that you grew it well. In fact you must be a fucking amazing grower in order to grow that strain out and get buds you could enter at all. So well done.

But it's still a shit strain and there are some amazing mind blowing strains in Cali. It's beyond what's believable to think people could try some blackwater and think "wow, winner". With all due respect to your mad growing skills, you can only polish a turd so much.

Well congrats. I don't think you rigged it personally, but someone did some politicking there.

I'd love to try it. But I've seen a lot of blackwater and I have a really hard time believing that it's possible to grow it out to elite quality.

Plants are a wonderful thing. Just like people - if you try hard enough you can find the magic. I have seen good seeds become stellar clones after two generations of love care and sometimes abuse. I had a second generation TGA Jilly Bean change from a strong orange pheno to a straight up chocolate mint that burned your nose.

Hey TTC - Do you have any pics of the grow? I would love to see what a Purple Blackwater looks like growing :)

Cheers,
Mo

A few years ago I had a soma rock bud. After 6-7 batches it turned into a grand daddy purple but more frosty and dense. I thought I had to of mixed up clones. I was so perplexed.. I never have had a GDP clone or seed in my life... There was no way I mixed it up. At the time my only other strains were master kush, afghani bull rider, and bubba kush.

Gotta love recessive genetics. Responsible for many of our best clone only strains.

If a plant is grown from seed, then selected as a mother plant for cloning, it will never show genotipical variation. Even though it carries both dominate and recessive traits its exhibited genotype will never differ genotipicaly. Phenotype a plants outward ward traits/visible characteristics can differ based on environment, climate, and nutrition.

Now it has been known for clones to exhibit mutations in their DNA sequence from donor/mother plant to regenerative plant/clone. I believe this is still a huge mystery to scientist as to why this happens.

What I was saying is many of the best clone only strains were cut from a mom plant showing freak recessive genetics.

Genetic drift?

look at UK cheese for example. That's just a sister pheno to skunk 1. ie a retarded pheno... You can make a cheese strain just by crossing with skunk or skunk hybrid.. I have. Same thing for how they came up with russet potatoes. That was a retarded pheno..

I have had colas on the same plant exhibit totally different traits. Genetics are not expressed as evenly across a organism as you would think.

I think if breeders were still back crossing like Soma and Dj short. The traits would remain the same. There is usually only 1 - 2 phenos when back crossing.. Then that sort of steps into the IBl's sort of. One thing about IBL's, the slightest stress can cause so many problems.. That's probably why the IBL master kush from dutch passion was discontinued. They released hindu skunk as master kush lol. Also that's why I killed off my dutch passion master kush.. Plus it was the slowest vegging plant I have ever seen. Main lining took 3 1/2 -4 months veg time with that.
