SilentSmoker420 Active Member Jul 9, 2011 #7 HIDs and MH MUST HAVE A BALLAST! The bulb requires a large jolt of energy to start up, and the ballast is the thing that provides said jolt. You can get deals on websites for both the bulbs and ballast. Look around, you'll find something.
