ok i have 2 closets that i want to use for growing. i want to do the veg cycle in one and bloom in the other one and keep rotating. each closet is 6x3 ft so i was thinking to use a 600w metal halide for the veg phase (because i have read it is better for veg) and a 600w hps for the bloom room. i want to grow 8-10 plants in each room.

is that good wattage? if i used a 1000w hps for the bloom room would that increase yield or would it be overkill? what about using 1000w mh light for the veg? would it increase how fast they grow

wattage sounds good to me, light setup works fine..go for it! Adding more wattage may increase how fast a plant grows, but in your case 1000w is too much. 8-10 plants in a flowering room that is what X what X what? 6Lx3Wx?H ...might be a little too much. You would be better off with 3-4 bushes. Are you looking for a continual harvest?

I actually grow in a 3 X 6 grow room and unless you have an air cooled reflector I would have to say a 600 watter is going to produce alot of heat. I grow with a 400 watter and still the doors need to be open just to keep the heat below 85....

well i want to grow atleast 5 plants so ill probably end up growing 6 or 7 plants. its a 6Lx3Wx6H closet.

so now im thinking a 400w MH for the veg room and a 600w hps for the bloom room. would that work or should i keep them the same wattage

What kind of budget are you looking at? I would say to get BOTH of these grow closets setup you'll be looking between $2-3G's. At least the way you are looking to do it.

Little baby's don't need that much light. Use less light, produce less heat, less ventilation, less worries all together.

In your veg closet START with CFL's and big Floro's. You're temps will be easy to control with small inexpensive fans.

You're flower room on the other hand, you'll need a 6" exhaust CAN FAN sitting upon a CAN-66 size filter. You'll need a 4" inline or can fan for your intake.

That's going to the be the minimum to get by with a 600w in the flower closet. 6x3 isn't very large and heats going to accumulate quickly if you don't change the air quickly and often. As a matter of fact in that setup I would use an air cooled light hood, a 1000w light and use ventilation for the room and light hood seperately.

But I'm a maniac and that's something I would suggest you work up to. Start smaller and get bigger unless you've got someone with a lot of experience to help you.

You will design and build your grow room and as you use you will find it's short comings and you'll figure out what you can and can't get away with. Sucks to struggle trying to grow because you have a grow room that just won't work with your equpment.

I'm rambling because I am high, but nonetheless, start with some CFL's and get some things going and as they progress think your grow rooms through and build them to solve specific problems.

Hes' right. With a 400 watt hps you do not need a can fan in your closet, just simple home fan directed at your reflector. You also need to take into account MH is alot hotter than HPS.

On the other hand a 600 watt for flowering will produce much fatter buds than a 400 watt.

I did exactly what lasrburn was talking about. I knew I was growing in a small confined area, so I vegged with 8 26 watt daylight 6500K cfls and then flowered with my hps. I actually have 2 400 hids, but the heat is a moajor issue. I do not have my can fans with me since I am away from home for another month, but if I did I would have vegged with 1 hid and flowered with both HID's hooked up to 1 can fan, but the cheapest can fan worth anything is gong to run $200 right off the bat.....;-)

It would be a lot cheaper with floros or Cfls(whatever), but thats up to you. It would definitely be easier to control temps and having to run ducting throughout your drywall. I wouldn't flower with anything other than HPS or the Sun. With those size restrictions you could have that 600w air cooled and a computer fan down low and should be fine, just make sure that light is 2'+ above the girls and you get some fresh air somehow. pix pix pix..

You can actually put the 600 watter 1 foot at the top of canopy if it's aircooled, just my thought....

im still in the very early planning stage of this. im just planning and pricing things out. i probably wont start working on it for another month or 2 but ill post pics when i have it all set up.

i think ill use a 400w MH for the veg and a 600w HPS for the bloom. im going to get some large rotating fans and a huge floor fan to push air out

You want lower fans to blow in cold air and top fans to blow heat out.
