hi first time grower setting up my room its an 8x8 . looking for advice /opinions on 2 600 watt lights vs 1 1000. I bought a 1000 watt setup while it was on sale for the room and a friend then told me I should have bought 2 600's instead pls offer your thoughts on this subject ty. this room is just for late vegg and flowering I have a separate set up with fluorescents for germin and early veg.

Cooling the HIDs is the problem. So, if cooling is solved and can stay solved, the more Watts the better. Watts are Yield.

That ad says use a magnetic ballast to power two sunpulse lamps.
I'd do 2 - 400/600/1000 solis matrix before I resorted to one of those splitters.
One guy on here did abd he ended up using nothing but their brand of lamp because that's all that worked with the splitter.
Problem being sunpulse lamps blow.

with that size of area 8x8 i would use 2 1000 watt hps lights. your bulb makes a diff. Hortilux is the best they produce 25% more blues while giving you same amount of reds. and they have 10% more par over the closest one.

IMHO 2 600s..more watts..and more overall coverage look in my signature for what 2 600s will get you...as long as you know how to grow.

Yep for Hortilux.

As far as I know, 600 W grow lights have better lumen-per-watt ratio. 600W lamps are more cost - efficient and produce less heat. If cost and cooling are not a problem go with 600 lamps.

How much of this 8x8 room will be used for growing?

In other wirds how big of a canopy foot print?

If wanting to use the entire 8x8 area you'll need either 4x 600w HID's or 4x 1000w HID's.

If using only 6x6 area of the 8x8 room,you'll need 4x 600w HID's or 2x 1000w HID's.

Rule of thumb is to provide a minimum of 50w per ever square foot of canopy.

600 dont cover a 4x4 area good enough. they will do a 3x3 are perfect not a 4x4. and we all run fans sucking out heat anyway so you join in your hoods and it will cool them allot. And hortilux bulbs with the right dig ballast will kick the shit out of a 600. if you want walking room and will only fill in a 3x3 area under each 600 then its a good light. look at par readings. and even if you have walking room in a 8x8 area i still would get the 1000 watt hortilux setup every time, dimable ballast wich can run at 75% 50% then you can run it at 750 watt each light and its perfect.

yes im sure he wants walking room and 2 1000's is perfect.

A 600w HID will cover a 4x4 area, granted it's not otimal but it will work just fine....i would be best though to hang it barebulb vertical down the center of the 4x4 and surround it with 6 to 8 plant's though.

If growing horizontally (in hoods/reflectors) then I would recommend a 1kw HID.

he has 8x8 if he uses the 1000 watt x2 then he can use 6x6 area. which is perfect. as plants are smaller he can use 75% power till they get bigger and use the 6x6 area. I love wathicng the 600's grow. they just are not big enough for a 8x8.

Lol i dont know why you are so sold on 600's. they dont hit as many spectrum's. When you get a 1000 watt hortilux going it cant be touched by 2 600's. im sure you have never researched what happens when you push a light to the max. well 1000 watt lights do and you get more spectrum's. 600's are good lights but they dont compare to the 1000's. i would take 1 1000 over 2 600's any day. With 600's you get .50 -.75 gram per watt. and 1000's you get .70-1.1 grams per watt. more par means bigger cola's period. and why would you want to hang 4 lights when you just need 2. if you are growing a sog then use 4 1000 watt lights. Its simple they already did all the tests and grows. 600's dont compete with 1000's. thats like comparing a 400 to 600.
That's why he would need 4x 600w HID's instead if two.

Gpw comes from genetics, environment, and grower skill.

I hit .8gpw with one 400w HPS in a 3x3 tent bare bulb vertical,so your annecdotal bullshit is just that, bullshit.

You don't get any or much more spectral coverage from a 1000w vs 600w bulb of tge same kind (ie,hortilux).

Your standard 1000w HPS has about 140000 lumens and a 600w HPS has about 90000 lumens

140000/1000 = 140 lumens per watt

90000/600 = 150 lumens per watt.

Do some research.

Im not talking fluffy shit on the bottom im talking dense tight cola's. and now you are talking about a 400. sure you can weigh the airy buds also to say you did more but i call bs. you only way the good buds.
