(1st post) yellowing/browning around outside of leaves during flowering

hi 1st post here. this is my 1st grow and ive been using a 4 bulb T5 for the whole grow. Im in day 31 of flowering and 2 of my 3 plants are yellowing/browning around the outside of the leaves. They were 3 clones that I picked up, Platinum Bubba Kush, Blue bull, and one that was just called Black...the guy said it was a hybrid. i was wondering if someone might be able to give me an idea on why this is happening.

Heat stress? T5's are bright and hot to say the least, purple stems and leaves make me think its a bit hot at the top of the plant. Peace

T5's are not hot at all. Of course heat is relative but T5's are a lot cooler than HID lamps.... also, purple stems is not a consequence of heat, its more likely purple stems are just a phenotypical trait of the strain youre growing. That said, I have heard people say 'low temps' can bring out the purple stems trait but never heard high temps causing this.

Anyways, yes, it does look like youve kept those leaves touching the T5. Although you can get the plants close you'll need to have a fan blowing on the bulbs if you want them touching.

My High Output T5's raise the temps of a sealed wardrobe over 30c quite easily given time and can be quite dependant on ambient temps if not running extraction and at least passive intake, my leaves dont really like touching the bulbs and will burn eventually.

Says who? Stop quoting purple strain theories when its not a purple strain.

I didn't mean touching i was merely refering to keeping the T5's at between 4 and 6 inches away from the tops of the plants, in a hot grow room T5's can burn if too close but this was just a simple guess by me. In reality there seems little major bad at this stage, could be fert imbalance, temps, lights, calcium etc etc but the fact the edges of the leaves burnt first just made me think either pushing temps or possibel fert imbalance. Firstly, I never quoted anyone... If you don't actually know what a 'quote' is then you need to go back to school. I gave anecdotal evidence I have heard in the canna community re purple strains and qualified this by saying it is what I have 'heard'. And I certainly never made out it was fact.

Secondly, how do you know they are not so called 'purple' strains... With names like, 'Black' or 'Blue Bull' I would say they likely have purple pheno types.

Thirdly, Any dummy knows if you keep any light in a 'sealed' wardrope, then 'eventually' heat will build up.... Fortunately this dude has enough sense to grow in a proper tent, im guessing with intake/outtake.

Fourthly, You suggest 'fert imbalance', that just shows youre a newbie because the pics the O.P posted show zero evidence of this.

Again i dont but so often as you 'QUOTED' and others quote the same without the realisation that purple strains are but a small percentage of the strains grown here at rollitup and the rest of the world so chances are im more right than you here!

Not always, plenty new growers think that a simple desk or stand fan will cool the lights in a sealed drobe or tent, a centrifugal fan can seem like a big outlay cost wise and is seldom the last purchase made, the bigger the tent the larger the fan reguardless of the lights as you dont see a 4 inch fan moving the heat from at 5 meter by 5 meter grow. Again plenty to consider but lets just hope hes at least got a decnt inline or relative ventilation fan to exhaust and change the air.

Everyone on this board is a newbie in some way or another, unwise of me not to consider a problem fert wise wether it be too much or too little or the wrong kind but simply put i wasnt going to put it down to being a purple strain or too cold, i find this too be by far too easy and quite often misunderstood answer to purple stems and petioles, calcium can play some part in it too as well as phosphorous and in some ways the two are interelated but then again all nutrients are.

You certainly dont find me calling anyone a newbie or dummie even if i seem to come across non symthetically on all my posts. Peace

No No No.... Nute burn doesnt just start at tips it leaves blemishes across the face of the leaf ....

Yer i can go with the nute burn, leaf edges have turned up and burnt plus the tips, would be a good place to start. Peace

In the way that we or people try and help you we need/require you to at least post updates and pics good or bad when changes happen. No good us guessing if you dont tell us what you did and the outcome. Peace

ok ive got an UPDATE!

ive stopped giving them nutes since my 1st post. The Platinum OG and the bluebull are fine now....but Black has gotten worse. Should i harvest early? i just dont want to end up losing the plant. check out the pics their are some big dark spots forming on the leaves now.

Pic one looks a couple weeks of ready for harvest, i see no reason why this one wont make it.

Pics two and three look nute deficiency mainly Potassium and Phosphorous, lockout or def i dont know.

You havent fed it for over a week so maybe a light feed with some plain water first to clear some salts etc etc but not a flush just make sure some runoff but i see no reason why they wouldnt make it to a good mature harvest. Peace
