Obvious newbie here..Outdoor grow..
Started plant from seedling 5/1/2018.. Moved from "red" cups to small pot... Today I transplanted to 1.71 gal pot..
I sprinkled handful of ground tree stump around plant.(from stump in backyard)
Was that a bad idea?
I'll upload pics soon...Want to start some sort of grow journal..Any and all help ,questions, comments, advice,or tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Both.. I actually have 4 total.. 3 in 1.71 pots lol the 4th..its another story..(upload pics of it also). I want to keep 2 in pots and put 1 in ground.. Thanks 4 reply @socaljoe
For some reason I thought you had a single plant.

My only real advice is to try and keep it simple. Good quality soil (bagged, bulk, or built), don't go crazy with fertilizers, and water it appropriately. Like many things in life, it can be as easy or as complicated as you make it.

Oh yeah, when flowering time comes along, get real familiar with BT. Budworms are a bitch, and proactive use of BT will definitely help.

Other than that, spend time going through old posts, see what has and hasn't worked for others. Have fun and welcome aboard.

I'm definitely reading everything I can find and will continue to post here daily.. Thanks a million brother!

Forget ground stump except as a small part of your medium. Cellulose does not decompose readily
Its only on top of the organic soil at the moment..
I plan on adding more organic soil on top of ground stump in week or two..What are your thoughts and or suggestions on that idea??

Welcome!! You have come to the right place!!

The best thing you can do if growing organic is to start a worm bin. Lots of great info here about that!

Happy reading!!!

The one thing that stands out to me is the pots are not full of soil. This means less for the roots, but it also makes transplanting more of a challenge than it needs be.

And wood will actually take N away from your soil as it decomposes. I would not put it in your soil mix. And if you have any other mulch, like leaves or straw, I wouldn't use it on top of the soil either. Here in NW Florida I lose several plants a year to termites. I try to stay away from the rotten stumps when I can.

I thought I had another bag of soil downstairs in basement under steps bongsmilie:eyesmoke::eyesmoke:..Turned out to be a bag of rock salt:wall:.. I'll grab couple more bags tomorrow.. (lol soil of course) & fill em up more.:leaf:

I would wait until you plan to transplant. Like everyone else has said, size of pot or hole matters. If the pot is too small, the plant will get root bound and be a PITA trying to get enough water to it. Dig holes in the ground, and mix your soil mix with the dirt. This is the best method for water retention.

I'm growing in small holes this season, trying to keep my plants small. Most folks are not going in that direction however.

Guess I will wait until time to transplant..
I wanted 2 put at least 1 in ground..Would do all 3 but skeptical about later on when it's time for long periods of nite ...

My neighbors back porch light shines and I can see light through fence .. Any suggestions?:leaf:

Lots of back yard growers. Some report light causing less bud growth. But most say no impact at all. I grow in the bush, so no personal experience.
