1st GROW

12 Plants; ancestory unknown. (a sativa, I believe, really heady high)
soil; unknown. started with large gravel in the bottom of the pot, then a screen, like for a screen door, then a sandy, silty or clay like soil...I can see some iron pyrite like flakes, some crispy green flakes and a few whitish little balls.
nuts; unknown, except that there are some added to the soil, so, I'm not adding any.
lights; unknown, 3 of them, 12 watts each, I think they're cfls (there is one bulb shown in one of the pics), suspended on one meter cables from the ceiling, adjustable in length from ceiling and distance from each other. at present, 24/7-I can touch a bulb without getting burned or feel much hotter than holding a womans hand!
grow room; a 4 tatami room, one tatami is about 170cmx80cm. anyway, the room is about 6x10ft. 8 ft high, you do the math, its small, probably closet size for most of you.
temp/humidity; 30 degrees celcius, 40%, constantly. I expect both to drop during flowering as fan/heater are on one timer and lights are on another.
I'll turn the fan/heater off then as need, but expect to use them often still during the night cycle as it will be december then.

I have a circulation fan, which is on only when the heater is on, its a small ceramic heater, no intake or exhaust fans. the door/s of this room match its width, @6ft/1.7m. I work from home and go in/out of the room many times a day/night, so get plenty of air exchange. I use a timer, exactly like most of you probably have, 24 hr w/ all those little switches.

before all of you jump me for so many unknowns, I live in a country where I'm illiterate, and only have a rudimentary understanding of the language. so, getting assistance from any1 would only compromise secrecy. I do the best I can. also, purchasing seeds is out of the question, customs is really tough here. buying smoke is difficult, rare and quite expensive, about 50 to 60 USD per gram, for something would cost me about $20 per 1/8 oz back home. I just spent about 3k, USD, for 30g(@1oz) a while back, didn't last long and I won't have any more until harvest due to availability!

so, everything started out well, for the first 5wks or so, then disaster, I germinated 25 seeds, 18 started and grew, then 6 died, smoked em. discovered I was overwatering and lights were too high and wasn't going with 'sea of green'. sorted all that out, looking good, again, topping each one at 56cm/22in, several have yet to reach that height, in the 9th wk. I am hoping to harvest by 16 wks, before xmas. I planted around the beginning of the 3rd week in August. about the time I spent all that $ for an oz.

been reading about the co2, decided to go with just under 2 litters water. a cup of sugar, and a few squirts of my own piss. yes, my own piss! takes a few days to activate, but its working fine. there is literally no odor in the beginning, slight odor after about 8 days. smells like very sour lemonade. I could see a dramatic improvement, much fuller and greener. nothing special, 2 litter bottle, (if you use a ginger ale bottle, it will still look like there is ginger ale in it, lol) water, sugar, pee (a few cc's). no cap, no tubes, no heat, no yeast, shaken (with cap on!), set on the growing table. it will be a clear, ginger color at first, nearly odorless, then turn a cloudy white, thats when it will start to have an odor, as I described above. only thing I'm worried about is earthquakes, there are a lot of em here.

time of usefullness, unknown, lol. I started a second one just now and I'll flush the first one in 2 wks or when/if the odor gets too strong, so I'll always have 2 going. I'm not worried about the settling as the fan should always keep it mixed.

cost; whatever sugar costs! and I seldom use it anyway
total cost; about 100 USD! cheap! I opted for low cost, as there are so many unknowns in my grow system

sorry, there are no pics of the unhealthy, dying plants. I couldn't bear it! they did smoke well though. a real intellectual high, not a stupid or lazy high.

P.S. the photos are progressive

previous photos were taken before the death of any plants. here are some more pics after letting the soil dry out, took about 2 weeks, setting the lights closer to plant tops, going with 'sea of green', and adding co2. starting to grow branches now. so far, no pest problems, that I can see...

any tips or advise would be welcome, but keep in mind, shopping is difficult as I can't read the language in the country I live...only english. again, getting assistance with the language problem only increases the risk of my secret getting out, since every1 I know knows I don't garden and have no house plants.

I have 7 pots, 5 with 2 plants each, 2 with one. I figured on keeping them short, so am hoping the roots won't crowd too much.

tomorrow I will go spend just a little more $. I'll buy a florescent black light. I am hoping to create ozone, O3, as I read a light with high UV will do. supposedly, with O3, one mole will attach to the stink mole making it heavier, it will sink to the floor and wiping/vacuuming will suck up the stink. the other thing is about the UV issue. in theory, cannibus plants evolved outdoors where the light contains UV. indoor lights are usually UV free or quite low in UV light. so, I'm hoping to add some ultra violet light to my crop.

also, I bought my present lights in a 3 pack. I had a choice of slightly blue or slightly red, I got the bluish ones. I will get a pack of the redish ones and swap one of the bluish ones for a redish one now. that will be total of two bluish and one redish in my system for vegging stage. then I'll set it up in reverse for the flowering stage. blue light is most pronounced during the spring and summer month, while red is stronger in fall and winter. so using a blue spectrum light such as MH or cfls is good during veg, however red spectrum shouldn't be completely left out during that stage. red spectrum light, like a HPS, should be used during flowering as our girls flower in the fall, however, once again, blue light shouldn't be completely left out during this stage either.

therefore, I have decided to go with 2/3 blue, 1/3 red, for vegging and 2/3 red, 1/3 blue for flowering. since my crop is on a growing table, about a half meter from the floor, and my 3 lights run down the center of the table, lenghtwise, the 1/3 will be the center light. it ain't a perfect mix of light, but it's the best balance I can get.

I'll put up some pics after I get that set up.

got the black light. very uncertain what was accomplished...what the hell, it's just an experiment. mainly, I'd like to cut down the odor. I'll give it a few days and check it out.
also, I got the 3 pack of the red spectrum bulbs, however when I replaced the center bulb I noticed that the light wasn't even getting to the other sections. I guess that is a bust. but, I'll still swap out all the blues for the reds when flowering.
after feed back from members, I'm not sure my co2 method is adequate for my room size. I'll try doubling co2 production...what the hell.
nothing else new to add. I'll post more pics in a few days.

First of all, I had to ditch 2 more plants. one was so tall and thin (very few sunleaves and a skinny main stem), and the other was too short to benefit from the small light I'm using. only 10 left, they are looking nice though. seems I have the watering schedule down. the shorter plants, I have a few that are almost 2 ft tall, are getting plenty of light. I'm not adding any nutes, so don't have to worry about that.

As for the black light, that seems to be working well, as far as smell is concerned, now. I can't smell anything outside the room. I can only smell weed inside and only when I touch the plants. I'm hoping to get some extra growth benefit from the black light also. It's only shining on half of the plants, as an experiment, for growth.

By the way, any high UV light will create ozone, O3, which will reduce/eliminate odors...like a tanning lamp. looks cool in photos as well, lol.

nice job so far
thanks bighead...I hope I can flower with only 36 watts of light, not counting the black light.

Of, also everyone, I just ordered 20 lowryder2 seeds from marijuana-seeds.nl. I hope they come through and hope I don't go to prison, lol!

anyway, chose the lowryder2 to better fit my growing style. with the autoflowering, I'm hoping to have seedlings and full bloom in one room, starters at one end and harvest at the other. I'll post that under my 2nd Grow, lol, when the time comes.

down to 8 plants.
culled some weaker plants, from pots containing two plants.
trying to get some stronger lights.
got no weed to smoke now, sux.

oh you should man! it organic and it makes you buds fuller and more crystally!
its awesome amazing stuff
lol, not even sure I could find that stuff here.

anyway, here's an update.
down to 6 plants. discovered, first hand, that three 12 watt bulbs, cfls, are fine for seedlings and may even be alright for vegging if water, heat, humidity and nutes are all done right, but they're not enough to complete a harvest.
so, I went to a super hardware store. looked around, asked some questions(sales ppl here are dumb as shiite, don't know their products. one even looked on the package for the answer...Shit, if I was dumb enough NOT to have looked myself, I'd die. another had to go get the 'catalog'). well, after comparing several item, decided on hps 400w 'extra' bulb, since it had a much higher red spectrum and higher lumens than the 'regular' one(this info from the catalog which the sales pers didn't understand; in her language but didn't understand the tech/term, not in my language).
I decided to make my own reflector from sheet aluminum. the woman had told me they didn't carry the e39 mogul I needed to fit the bulb...of course, she was wrong...I found one! then, believe it or not, they told me they had no ballasts for hid lights, and I couldn't find any, crap!! however, I did find a 500w ballastless mercury vapor, so got one. what the hell, better than 37 watts of cfls. and they had a shitty selection of long tube cfls...and I don't want to go with the cfls anyway, I decided.
hooked it all up, turned off the auxillary heater (cold here now), rearranged the plants, cut it back to only 6 (remember, this is bagseed).
see the pics
today, I got online with the model # of the bulb I did get. tracked down the manufacturer, which let to yet another website, then another...until I found some lighting store homepage, all in this language I don't understand, and found this...A•¨ˆç¬(…kÍ”|)@ƒXƒyƒVƒƒƒ‹ƒNƒX ŠÛŒ^ƒZ[ƒh SPƒZƒbƒg ŒƒˆÀ“Á‰¿”Ì”„FƒAƒJƒŠƒZƒ“ƒ^[
sorry if you don't have the fonts to read that page, but you can see the pictures, lol.
I got the 400w high red HPS with diffuser hood and ballast, plus a niffty hanging chain. about $365.00
also, just arrived via stealth CD, lol, 20 lowryder2 and 5 bonus seeds, $85.00
the 'hot box' vaporizer and accessories, on order, $260.00
HOTBOX Herbal Vaporizer | Vaporizers Giant | Cheap Vaporizers Wholesale Prices | Volcano Air2 Vapir

my credit card is far from exhausted, but I have severe psychological stress now, lol. 'grow my own, save some money', is ending up to be as much as I smoke in a few years.

oh well, now it will be available to me and I'll probably smoke much more too!
so far, 6 of 7 lowryder2's have broke their shells. they'll be in dirt by tomorrow, but that will be for a diff thread, 2nd Grow, lol.

few more pics of the plants...to date, after some severe overwatering, the majority of them hadn't yet started growing branches, only fan leaves and main stem! culled out half, tried to keep the most even sized and ones with many, closely spaced, internodes. next week will be about the 3 month mark. I was hoping to harvest before xmas, but see that isn't gonna happen.
when I get the new light, I'll put it on these and start the lowryders on the MV lamp for a few weeks, cuz they're autoflowers and only need 12/12 from the start. so, these gals will go into flower stage before they're really ready, but I want some weed and want to focus on the lowryders, lol.

most of the new growth you see in the pics is from the last 2 days with the new light. I expect great things with the newer HPS.
