Hey guys
This is my first dwc grow after many years of soil growing I've decided to make the plunge to hydro and so far it's really been enjoyable!
One thing that I have been reading and has got me a little worried is rez temp. I have been taking readings for the last few days. 19.3 d (66.74f), 21.1 (69.98) 21.2 (70.16).
I'm worried I'll get into root troubles later on but i dont want to drop $300 on a water chiller if I can get away with it.

I have 2 x 5 gal buckets painting white then wrapped with bubble insulation.

Any advice?

Cheers

I am about to build a DWC set up myself, Im just waiting on a few more pieces. This was one of the things that worried me as well, in order to help with the temps I plan to (like you) insulate the buckets in the grow room as well I am recirculating the water to a controller that is located outside of the grow room which will hopefully keep temperatures safe.

Yeah so far I guess it's not too bad, I put the pump outside the tent so it doesn't get very hot at all. I think the insulation works quite well but it only works to a certain extent. I have been looking at aquarium chillers and they are damn expensive something I'm hoping to do without. I'm doing the whole canna grow so im hoping the rhizotonic and cannazym help protect the roots from such problems. And of course having a decent pump should help.
(10w pump for 2 buckets).
Goodluck

The insulation should help I used 3 layers of reflectix... you can swap in a 1L bottle of ice once a day to keep temps cold. You should be fine in the low 70s with bennies... but make sure your canna nutes don't contain organics... general rule of thumb for dwc is need to stick with salt/mineral nutes or the roots will most likely turn brown and die.

Thanks yeah I'm using canna classic nutes with rhizotomic cannazym and boost which I'm pretty sure arnt organic. Only bio canna is organic In their range. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for the advice.

Does the frozen water bottles have any ill effects on the roots?

I use an iceprobe with a controller and couldn't be happier. just under 200 bucks. pulls 50W and keeps my 20 gallons perfectly regulated without me having to babysit.

For insulation I've tried the reflective bubble wrap stuff, but fiberglass insulation that is already wrapped in plastic worked way better for me, and much cheaper in the end. Lowes, under 20 a roll. one roll covered all 5 of my buckets no problem.

Wow that's cheap for the insulation. I live in Australia and you have to buy it in 50mtr rolls and cost about $180. Lucky I work in the plumbing industry and had a rep give me a few mtrs for free.

I have read about them probes. Maybe something I can look into when/if the temps go sky high.

Cheers for that

Maybe I'm just thinking of the pink shit but don't you get little fibers of fiber glass flying around in the air and all over things?
