1st Cabinet Grow-CFL for Veg, LED for Flower. Hawaiian Snow +1 other.

Ok then, this has been a while in the making so bear with me whilst I ramble some.

So Ive constructed a cabinet with dimensions roughly of 3ft W 6ft H 1.5ft D. Originally I had intended on a completely LED grow from seed to flower, however budget restraints have changed my plans a little. For now I have installed 2x125w Envirolite cfls which I will swap out early in September for a 240w Blackstar to complete vegging and take care of flowering.

From Greenhouse Seeds ive popped in a Hawaiian Snow and a Super Silver Haze into a DWC system, 4 days later and unfortunately only the HS has broken ground so im trying to crack a Big Bang to smash in next to the HS in case the Haze doesnt sprout. Hopefully this wont result in too much of a headstart for the snow.

Included below are some pic so far of my box setup and my 1 day old baby girl! Some light leaks when the box is shut, shouldnt be too much of an issue. Also sharing the box just for the moment are some of my other herbs, this one is mint catching some rays while there is still room!

Will try to keep this updated every few days or whenever something exciting happens! Wish me luck and feel free to chip in with any comments and advice. Peace Out Yo!

Some of us have full time jobs bro

However I have not been idle, 4 days in and my baby Hawaiian Snow is looking sexy. Still no sign of the Big Bang or Silver Haze
I have changed the the light fixtures to try and maximise my coverage (2x 1.99 dog leads!). PH balanced the tank, lights are on 18-6. Temps are nice and steady, max 36C during the day, min 19 at night.

Happiness so far but very impatient to see some more action! Enjoy the pics, Peace out. X

Such a pity about the Silver Haze and the Big Bang. I'm not holding out much hope for the Silver Haze, but the Big Bang might still pop her head up in the next day or two. If she doesn't, I would dump them both and focus on a masterful Hawaiian Snow grow, which by the way is looking great so far. She'll be a different animal in a few weeks.

Dog leads as chains for your lights - genius. I spent waaay more getting chains cut at Homebase.. Nice work.

Not much to report, couple pics up. Both my other seeds failed to germ so im sticking to one plant. Repositioned her in the centre of the farm. Took a wee peek at her roots when I did, looking strong and healthy Sorry to disapoint anyone but im thinking pretty seriously about scrapping the LED plan, for this grow at least. Was a tough decision as I had put in a LOT of research and had my heart set on one. Really I cant justify spending that kind of ca$h right now! perhaps in a couple months once ive perfected this stealth setup. But I digress..

Here you see my baby Hawaiian Snow at day 12. It feels slow but im actually seeing a plenty of new growth every single day, shes healthy and growing fast! You might notice a slight burn on the tip of one leaf, Im not too concerned, she still looks very healthy, I think this might be slightly too high PH of water or perhaps some moisture is burning off on the leaves during daylight hours that has splashed up during watering?? I will dump the tank tomorrow and refil with fresh PH'd water, probably look at starting her on a low dose of nutes in a week or so.

DAY 14

Another quick pic today. This ones gives a better look at the burn on the tips. Dumped the tank and refilled with balanced water yesterday. Cut her watering down to once per day.

My guess is that the spash from the feeder is sitting on the leaves and burning under the heat of the massive CFLs.

If I were you, I would switch one bulb off (seedlings don't need that much light), switch the feeder off, and hand water your cube once a day. About a cup of water should do for 24 hours. It is unlikely that the two scorched leaf tips will ever recover, but all new growth should come through healthy as long as the splashing and burning stops. Once the seedling grows an inch or two in height, you can turn the feeder back on.

Also, get your 2nd fan working - high 90s (F) is hot hot hot. Dropping down to 1 bulb should also bring down the temps a little.

DAY 22

Slowly slowly.....

DAY 36 HELP!!! MY LADY IS DYING!

Ok so another 2 weeks have past without a lot of progress. Im beginning to think extreme heat in the first few weeks may have stunted her growth. More concerning than this however, the burn that originally started on my first baby leaves has subsequently spread to new sets of fan leaves. Now whilst the new growth looks nice and healthy im losing leaves faster than im gaining them and fear this will soon consume my tiny runt of a plant!

To combat the heat i have added and extra ventilation fan, and an internal fan blowing directly onto the plant. This has brought temps down by nearly 10C which are now sitting steadily at around 30C/85F during lights on and 18-20C/65F lights out. So far she has not been fed anything but Ph'd water.

Yet the burn continues. Please take a look at the pics and tell me what you think? Im in deep crisis mode, so much so that I popped in a couple more seeds to germ last night just in case this little girl doesnt make it
