you are helping a kid grow in his parents closet who doesn't want to get a carbon filter because he's worried they will know what the carbon filter is. He is not worried about the look or smell of his plants whatsoever. You are helping a lost cause!

a first timer should grow in soil so they understand a plant before jumping into full blown botanist.

I'm just sayin I've been where you are, helping this guy, he's your buddy don't get me wrong, but he might as well be imaginary, considering he won't listen to a damn word of your advice, no matter how clear you make it. give him a few years of learning on his own. He'll survive, grams are only 100 dollars in china. thats nothing to five factory workers..
