Hi,

I'm just curious if anyone else has tried one of these grow lights before, and what their opinions are? It's a newer 1800W COB LED grow light from China which is being marketed under a few different brands at the moment.

The specs are:
BestVA X6 1800W Integrated COB LED grow light
LEDs: 6PCS 300W Integrated COB LEDs (each integrated COB LED designed with 60PCS 5W LED chips)
LED Power : 1800W
Full spectrum for vegetative and flowering stage: 430~440nm, 450~475nm, 620~630nm, 650~670nm, White, IR(730nm)
Actual Power consumption: 380W-420W
Dimension: 310x210x60mm
Coverage Area: about 10 x 10 Square Feet
Lifespan: >50,000hours

I decided to get one since I recently expanded to two 2x4x7 tents, and was never happy with the heat my two mars hydro 600w lights produced as a pair, and this light 'claimed' it had a 7x7 foot coverage area which was more than what I needed. The mars 600w's barely do 2x2 at 24" to be honest, and any higher and you start to lose a lot of lumens.
Since I like bleeding edge tech, I threw caution to the wind and hopped over to aliexpress and gave some shady chinese character my money, hoping I'd get a working light in return. Well, within 4 or 5 days via DHeLL, the light arrived, and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. It doesn't look like much; in fact, it's presentation is almost laughable since it looks like a cheap retrofitted mars hydro light, but it seems to be built well, and the LEDs are BRIGHT.

They're so bright in fact, that I can't even capture an accurate representation of the color they emit. It's like a very striking hot pink/purple that's easier on the eyes than older 3w/5w multi-led lights. The brightness and color is similar to looking at a pink laser is the best way I can describe it. The coverage area is also phenomenal. I'm able to get 100% coverage at 18" in my 2x4 tent with just one light meaning less heat in the tent to exhaust. If everything goes well at the end of this grow, I'm going to get another and ditch my pair of mars hydros in the other tent.

Now what's extremely weird however, is that my LED glasses I used in the past with other lights don't seem to work with this light. Instead I just see red when I put them on, and only red, which I find bizarre considering the glasses are green. Has anyone encountered this before? Is this typical with COB?

Hi Princess, if the red percentage of this lamp is higher than the Mars it will show through the glasses. Cobs aren't generally red/blue though.
