Is it realistic to think I can get an ounce out of an 18 inch plant? Or do I need to grow bigger? I know a lot of factors are involved. Just looking for your thoughts and opinions.

Absolutely I figure an ounce a ft of plant if grown properly. As u stated obviously there is a lot of other factors. I had high hopes my first few grows only to be dashed by my own errors. I would figure a quarter to half of what u are shooting for. If u get more u will be happy. Truth hurts but I let myself down with too high of expectations. This may not be the case for u just wanted to she'd light on my opinion. Btw welcome to riu my friend. See ya around on the boards!

u can make a plant 18 inches tall in five days, just don't give it light.

What do you mean by that? How could a plant grow 18 inches in five days? What do you mean by don't give it light?

He means that plants stretch when they don't have enough light, if you give a plant lots of light and keep them close plant will stay short and bushy (to some degree), if you have too little light and its far away plant stretches to get closer. I believe the 5 days was what we would call hyperbole.
