I'm new to hydroponics, so please, any advice would be bloody grand. I have an 18 gallon tub, double output air pump, and two airstones. I was wondering what medium and nutrients, and how much nutrients would be perfect for this particular set-up. I haven't finished it yet, I still have to get a medium, nutrients, and a net-cup. Please, if you have any advice, please feel free to reply. Thank you in advance, and have a bloody grand evening.

I use hydroton for a medium with rockwool. Nutrients are really a personal preference. Tons of people on here swear by Fox Farms nutes. I use botanicare products. Most of these nutes have directions for how much to give and when. It breaks it down into gallons. And by age of plant. It's easier than it sounds. You will also learn as you go, just remember with nutes, start out small don't overdue things.

I use foxfarm. I'm sure anything is ok. i have almost the exact same setup as you. I have that same whisper pump on a smaller unit. I use a slightly larger air pump. My advice would be to get decent sized net cups. I have the smaller 3 inch ones and my plants are getting so big it's starting to bend them. Hell, you almost done now, just nutes and hydroton and net pots and you'll be rolling. I would advice to get a PPM/EC meter and a digital PH meter.

I've looked into fox farms, and I attempted to read the directions, and is not possible. For I have smoked the death bong, and it's a bit hard to think about anything... but I'm sure I'll get it tomorrow haha... would you prefer botanicare over fox farms, or have you not tried fox farm?

Yeah, I'm ALMOST finished, but still needs some tweaking. How much does a ppm and ph meter usually run? Why would the net-cup be bending your plant? I don't see how it would... anyway, yeah, I need rockwool, hydroton, some nutes, ppm meter, ph meter, and net-cups... that was more for me than you, but now yah know... o_O

Nah, not the net cups bending my plant, but the cups bend cause the weight of the plant makes them tip inside the opening they go into. I think that makes sense.

I bought the cheapo PH meter digital for about $25 with shipping
Same with the PPM meter. I got it off of that site that everyone bids on.

Hey Stoner Brownie Batter. To answer your question I have used Fox Farms and I like them they work great. I was having some salt problems with it, nothing major I just had to keep an eye on when to flush. With Botanicare I don't get as much salt build up. Salt build up isn't bad you just have to know when to flush. Plus I can get Botanicare products cheaper. The directions are simple go here HydroFanatics.com | Your Hydroponics and Indoor Gardening Superstore - Articles - Nutrient Feeding Schedules - American Agritech - Botanicare Feeding Schedule
to check out their different nute packages and feeding schedule. I'm using the Pure Blend Pro menu....plants like
Good luck and happy growing

I would get bigger air stones, the 12" long or the 4" disk,I use GH3part with diamond nectar. You can go to the web site of any of the nutr makers and get there feeding charts for free.I use the 5"net pots and hydrton and rapid rooter plugs.Heres a site you can check out for ph & tds meters.I bought two meters there.SUNSTONEHERBALS.COM.The TDS3 by hanna is what I have been using for a year now and it works great.Keep it simple and you will learn how and what the plant needs to grow.Peace

Hi,
I use gh micro and bloom only with the lucas formula, so far it's going really well.
If I was you I would put either bigger air stones or even add another pump, the more bubble the better. The plants just take off with more oxygen in the water.
Have a look at the link on my signature, I'm doing a very similar grow right now.

cheers
