hi, im getting a 175 watt metal halide lightbulb, how far away should i keep it from my plant? right now im veging with a CFL and im makeing a huge jump from 1 CFL (i dont like Y connectors they make me feel like my plant doesnt get enough light) or id use a y connector. and use more lights for veg.

my fan died so i dont have a fan enymore would my plants be ok without a fan? the stems would probobly get bigger when the plant gets bigger enyhow

i keep my 175w halide about 5 inches from the tops of my plants. the fan blowing across the tops of the plants is important to getting the light close. here is my best baby under the halide

does that mean id have to raise the light up a little higher than that? like 6-7-8 inches? cuz im broke for now untill somone buys my pills and i get like 40 bucksthen i can get a fan.

just depends i guess. you wouldnt want the light too close without having some airflow blowing the heat from the bulb away from the tops. you could raise it to 6-8 inches and put your hand near the top of the plant and if it is too hot then you can feel it. with good airflow i bet u could put it like 2 inches from the top of the plant.:bigjoint:

air flow is really important, both for mixing the air molecules and for cooling a hot light. if you have intake and exhaust fans it wouldn't be needed for mixing the air, but I am guessing you don't have intake and exhaust fans. you can buy a small 'clamp' fan for $5-$10 and any discount store. if I were you, I'd borrow a 20 from someone and get some kinda fan...if you ain't workin just promise em some bud.
