The answer is probably out there somewhere, but I can't find it.

-16 oz cups (blue and red ones) that you get drunk with at parties
-soil
-2 week old plants

Q: 1.) How do I check the roots without injuring the plants

2.) when is a good time to transplant

3.) can I transplant to a different medium or will this kill the plants

1) If your plants are generally healthy, then your roots are probably healthy.

2) When they outgrow the current containers. If the plants are taller than the beer cups, then id say its time to upgrade.

3) Yes you can transplant into a different medium. They will go into shock though. If the plant is strong it should bounce back from transplant fairly quickly, if not, it will probably die.

The best thing you can do is simply start off with a top of the line soil. FoxFarms "Oceans Forest" is probably the most recommended soil. Its pure organic, loaded with nutes, ph balanced. Its more expensive but worth it in the long run. Your plants will love it.

1) If you have the blue and red ones, you should probably be able to see roots through the plastic. If not you should be able to slide them out of the cup to take a look, preferably when they need watering. Just be careful.

2) A good time to transplant is when to roots are showing, lot's of them. Then when you transplant you should get explosive growth.

I go from 16 oz -> 1 gallon - 3 gallon when I am seeing roots and then throw them into flower when they get about 24 inches.

3) You can transplant into another medium, should not hurt them, unless you shock them.

Good Luck :weed:

No way can I see thru them...

Also, since we're talking about SOIL a bit, anyone have good results with PEACEFUL VALLEY FARM products or SUPERSOIL ? I know everyone prefers FoxFarm but nonetheless..
I read pretty good reviews for both of them... any insight?

If you can't see through them, you can slide the whole root ball out. When it needs watering, gently hold on to the stem as you slide it out on your palm. Take a look and slide it back in.
