150w HPS tent grow heat issues!!!

ok idk why or what is causeing my tent to be 91f..... i just bought a 4" 160 cfm inline fan made by "ecoplus". I figured this would be good enough but my tent is still 91! So what do ya think is the deal?? My tent is 36"w/20"d/62"h and im running a 150watt HPS sun system built-in ballast. I was hoping to just run a passive intake but that soent seem to be working!

What is your ambient room temp? Also the built in ballast makes quite a bit of heat by itself.

78 is the norml temp of the room.

The only thing I can really say is if you don't mind voiding the warranty pull the ballast out of the box and put it on the outside or mod the reflector to accept air cooling. Seems to me like your ballast is what is causing it to be too hot. My dresser with a 150 in it runs about 84 with the ballast on the outside and my ambient room temp of 78. So cool the light and find a way to drop your ambient temp a little bit.

I agree, or possibly modify the housing and put a fan on top. I did a remote ballast inside of an old PC power supply. Ripped the old stuff out, mounted it inside. Perfect fit, 150W too. Good luck!!

It ran VERY hot, until i put a fan on the power supply, now runs cool.

I had the exact same problem in my cab after adding a 150w HPS. No problems with 234w of cfl. I can still hear people saying "150w HPS don't put out much heat at all." lol And "that 150w will run cooler than your cfl's." lol Ok, so now that we know those are BS, I took the ballast out and moved it outside my cabinet. It helped a little bit, but not as much as I originally thought. Then I did a DIY cool tube with a 80cfm 4" fan it is working good. A bigger fan would be even better. Can hold the glass tube without a problem. Cool tube would be your best bet if you can do it.

Im using a 150 watt hps in the same size closet with 2 cfls and i dont have a problem with temps.Seems to me that the built in ballast is whats causing the excess heat.You need to get that air cooled or try switching it for a remote ballast that you can place outside of the grow.
I only use it to veg because i need to buy some t5 bulbs.I got a 400 watt to flower in a bigger closet.
