150 watt hps question

i am thinking of getting a 150 watt hps system for a little closet without very much much space, i am wondering how close i can have this light to the tops of the plants without burning them?

Flourescents: proximimty
400w HPS: 1 foot
600w HPS: 1.5 foot
1000w HPS: 2 foot

now how many plants say could a 400 w hps support through flower along with a handful of high wattage cfl's?

How big do you want to grow them? Smaller you flower them = smaller pot (bucket/soil) size = more plants but less bud.
