Is this normal? I thought it could take up to a week to show sex, I started flowering at 8pm last night, lights came on at 8 this morning and I could already determine sex on one of my plants. It's a female thank god! But then the question came up, how long does it normally take to determine sex?

It depends on the age of the plant. How long did you veg it? Some will show pre-flowers under 24/7 light.

there must have been showing signs of sex well before they were put to bed last night.
1 day of 12/12 without showing sex and then it appears overnight .

from no signs of sex to showing sex after 1 day of 12/12 is not possible.
they must have been showing clear signs of sex/preflowers before 1 day of 12/12

i dont know man , my nevilles i thought it was dying because i transplanted it and watered it and i was going to cut her down so then jeff told me to wait and i decided to give her 3 extra hours of light and she showed the next day , but down fall wa si was using mt 400w mh for almost 3 weeks of 12/12 waiting on my super argo hps to come and then she showed and i switched bulbs, so its plausable to an extent.

agreed there had to be SOME sign of sex before, maybe a small calyx not noticed before and the hair come out the next day in 12/12, but i guess just because it might not have been noticed doesnt mean it wasnt there

I guess I could've worded that different.

Maybe that was the night she decided to show noticeable pre-flowers (to the op), wether or not he switched to 12/12.

Sorry guys for the long reply, I've been away from the computer for a bit. I was a bit vague on what I said, so let me reiterate.

I had vegged these plants for 2 months, so yes they were already showing preflowers. So overnight the pistils had emerged.
