13x13 Grow room using 4 600 Watts and a SOG DWC

Originally I wanted to LED's but to cut costs and save me a hassle I'm thinking about just doing the good old trusted way of 600 watters. I eventually want to go the LED route but want to simplify things for now.

What do you guys think of this design?
-Home made 13x13 grow area
-4 600 Watt lights
-15 2x4 30 site DWC's (450 plants total)

I also want to build each row on sliding racks like those filing systems so I can squeeze more into the space and when I NEED too, I can slide a row into the empty area to gain access.

Will 4 600 watt HPS lamps be enough? From what I understand that is maxing out it's coverage, but the room will all be reflective etc.

What would be the ideal height to make the room?

I made another drawing to show the slide......my computer fucked up, but I think people understand the concept

I can’t comment on DWC style of growing. But I can comment on 600w and SOG style. I am currently switching my (4) 4x4 tents to ebb n flow (sog style) on 3x3 trays from organic growing. Honestly and I know some might disagree but I wouldn’t go larger then 4x4.

Your height should be as tall as you can make it for one reason only. Heat! Well outside of basic room for pot or buckets, fans, lights and what else. I say 6 feet is the smallest in height I would want my tents, but the that is to small it least with ebb n flow trays.

Cinder blocks -> Trays -> Pots -> 30” (max) plant height -> leaves me around 6 inches of height left between plants and lights that are fixed atop my 6.5’ grow tent.

Hope this helps a little.

i hope that is some type of recirc DWC system or you are going to be spending some crazy man hours doing nute changes lol

^ ya but I've got some help too.

I could make the room 8 feet or even 10 feet if that would be best to get rid of the heat.

I think instead of using A/C of some sort, why couldn't I just pull cold/cooler air from outside? And then adjust the fan speed to adjust the temperatures depending on how cold it is outside.

It will help with heat. In small tents or grow boxes, it can turn into an oven fairly fast the vertical space will help. But with 4 600's I would the smallest ac you should get is a 12K btu. The calculator will say you need a 8000 btu, but that is to maintain current ambient temps. I believe the calculations are 3.2 btu's for every watt. Something like that.

But you can and should use the inline fan in the manner you speak of, you will need ac in the summer trust me.

Sorry friend, just woke up and can't type. Need to hit the bong.

I've been having a hard time thinking about the insulation, since the ambient temperature in the shop will be pretty close to outdoor temperatures, it would be good for cooling to leave the room/tent un-insulated but at the same time the insulation will help because I will probably have to run a heater when the lights are off. I guess it would be smarter to have my lights run at night when the temperatures are a lot cooler.
