12/12 from seed - can I LST and if so when?

12/12 from seed - can I LST and if so when?

I have some seedlings growing their 3rd set of real leaves - they are 2-3 weeks in (sorry never wrote down when I started)

I'd like to start LST'ing them if it makes sense... not sure because they aren't very strong yet and it wouldn't take much to hold em down.

Cuz of my shitty setup each seedling gets a varying amount of light so they all look different. Some are upright and some are stretched and lie horizontal. I was thinking of LST'ing some of the strong upright ones.

Your not really gonna be able to LST a plant from seed as it turns out as one big cola usualy

The idea of LST ultimately is to increase budsites per surface area, so you would normally do this on a plant you wish to grow big but retain its growth

Ah ok, well what about topping them then? Can I do that and if so at what point?

Don't top a plant in 12/12, it can hurt yield.

Noxzious was incorrect, you may LST up to the day you harvest.

I start lst right away, thats a mini lighter and i held her down with a bent q-tip1275300766530.jpg
Same plant a little while later a few more bent q-tips they work well on smaller plants1277211771112.jpg
her most recent pic. no more q-tips i use that orange plastic line to pull her out1279289838251.jpg

every other watering i adjust the lines and move her into better positions to help with more growth ive had to tie down a few stems grown off of stems last time.

dont use fishing line though, i started with that before the orange line. i bumped the pot and sliced a decent branch clean off

thanks for the info... my biggest healthiest seedling is starting it's 3rd set of real leaves.

It is only in a small plastic beer cup though about 5 inches high so I want to transplant it to a big pot - should I do the transplant first then do the LST after or keep it in the plastic cup and do LST and transplant later?

I didnt say it was impossible i just didnt know the reasoning for why you would want to with 12/12 from seed. Unless your growing in a shoebox

If your gna top.. up your light cycle and do it at the 6th node

What did you want to achieve by LSTing a plant from seed in 12/12

depends if you want to retie everything. it holds its shape for the most part and its not that hard. i transplanted 3 times and just retied everything again but i didnt start in a cup so you might want to move it first

Ok so I transplanted 2 seedlings from their beer cups to big pots with the intention of LST'ing them, it went well, roots were on the outside of the soil at the bottom, no sign of shock yet, will start LST on Sunday around 4:20pm :)

if the roots were only on the bottom part of the cup you might be watering too much. wait till you can visibly see the soil pull away from the edge of the pot. then carefully agitate the top soil to loosen it up a bit and fill in that space before you water. this keeps the roots moving around and looking for water and filling up that space keeps 90% of the water you pour in from just running down the sides and out the bottom

Ah ok man, yeah I may be overwatering a bit, how many days you think they can go between watering? every other day or longer?

thanks for the headsup on filling in the gaps.

The sad thing is that I do not have room for bigger pots so most of my plants will live their whole lives in these shitty cups :(

you will see when you need to water, the soil inside the pot shrinks and pulls away from the edges of the pot completely. depending on the size of your pot and type of soil you use and the temp of the air it could take about 2-3 days maybe a little longer. dont be scared to wait it out. you will get the hang of it and if you wait to long and the leaves start to droop... water it and dont wait as long next time. its a weed it can survive a little drought you wont hurt it if you wait a little to long but you can kill it if you dont wait enough

and you can use anything as a pot... got an empty gallon of milk? cut the top off, poke holes in the bottom and paint it black...

Your plant won’t have enough limbs to worry about lst if you go straight to 12/12. I guess if you’re worried about height but they won’t get very tall on 12/12 only. Plus the stems start getting hard to bend after about 3 weeks in flower so it's best to do most of your lst in veg.
Here’s what lst is all about.:bigjoint:

mclovin: I took 2 seedlings and transplanted them to big pots. I am gonna LST them in a couple of days once they recover. I have room for 2 big ass LST plants and the rest will stay in solo cups :(

I have read over 12/12 from seed journals and LST seems to have worked for them.

Thanks Mr. Mike. That was my first lst grow.

Marine you can do it. I've grown several clones without any veg time, well other than the time it took them to root. Is this your first grow or just your first time trying LST? Either way in my eyes it's the only way to grow. I like to top mine when they have about 5 sets of leaves and then lst them. If you top them they'll have to have a little time before going into 12/12. If you're throwing them straight into 12/12 I wouldn't worry about topping you'll just end up with smaller main colas. Just keep experimenting and you'll find what works best for you. Oh and good luck.
