12/12 first grow help.

Hi all,

This will be my first ever grow and i am super excited to get started. I have been reading over several forums for the last couple days trying to saturate my brain with as much knowledge as possible to make sure I am able to grow the best and most healthy plants that I am capable of ( being a noob and all ). Anyways I plan on growing 4 plants in something like this-

30in tall, 16in wide, 12in deep. with a 6qt 4 plant res. I am going to do 12/12 from seed. I have a few things that I really dont understand and would really love to get some better info about from some of you pros : )

1.I have a ppm meter, and ph meter, as well as flora grow nutes, and I was curious how I should start feeding the plants. Like what should the ph and ppm be at for the first time I put in the plants, next week, ect. Keep in mind I am starting them at 12/12 from seed.

2. How often do I have to change the water or add nutes. Do i just look to see how low the res has gotten and then take out all the water and then remix it in with new nutes? or do I replace more water and nutes with the old water in there still but compensate with the amount of nutes and then just change my water at the end of every week? Also do I add new nutes everyday? or adjust based on ppm.

3. Since I am starting with 12/12 should I use bloom nutes or veg nutes for it at first?


4. Final question, when I germ the seeds, do I just drop it into the rockwell and cover the top of the hole, or do I need to poke a hole in the bottom of the rockwell so the root can grow out of it, or do the stems break through the rockwell on there own?

Here's my very basic 250w HPS grow . These are 12/12 from seed. I stared feeding fish emulsion on organic compost when the seedlings were about 4-5" tall.
Let the plants tell you what the need. It's easy to grow, once you understand the basics. Nitrogen deficiency is the most common and aside from that, I've never had a problem growing on soil.
It's always better to underfeed than to overfeed your plants . Start @ 1/4 recommended dose and gradually go up. On 12/12 , I feed high N, until he plants finish their "stretch" .
Then I switch to something like 10-30-10 for the first 4 wks. of bud. I finish off with a high phosphorous fertilizer like 10-60-10 . Flush with PLAIN water last 2 wks. to rid your smoke of chemicals. My germination method: paper towel /ziplock bag = works well. Anyway, my plants- pineapple gum, white widow and some Speed Haze, at various times into flowering, all done 12/12 from seed _~
